I have a phone interview tomorrow for a WDE II position. I have 6yoe as a full-stack engineer at companies most people have heard of. After reading Glassdoor interviews for FEE vs WDE, and David Shariff’s blog post about FE interviews @ Amazon, I feel like the FEE role is more fitting. If I breeze through the technical aspects of the WDE interview, is there a possibility they would consider a FEE role? Thanks!
WDE pay is lower than FEE. FEE is SDE job family, but WDE is not. About 15-20% less pay for the same kind of work
Yeah my wording is a little confusing in the post. The recruiter seemed to not understand my skill level, because they told me to learn algorithms and DS before my interview. I told them that I have been studying and practicing them for years, and that I recently made it to Google onsite interviews. Either way, of course I want that higher pay band, and the challenge of FEE vs WDE.

It’s quite easy to change role once you’re inside! If you think you’ll perform better at FFE interviews you can ask them to reschedule or reinterview (if cannot reschedule and failed WDE).
Is there a time that I’d have to wait to reinterview?
Shouldn’t require waiting if the roles are very different. But if WDE and FEE are similar, and you did bad in WDE, you might need to wait 6-12 months. Sometimes the loop proactively recommend for different role. So, they might say no for WDE but recommend for FEE.
