YOE - 7yrs (C/C++ Developer) I need suggestion regarding offers: Offer #1 ------------ Amazon L5 (Seattle) Team: EC2 Base: 156k Bonus: 70k first year, then 50k second year Stock: 86 shares (~150K for 4 years) Relocation: Expense for relocating furniture and 1 month Offer #2 ------------ Mid Size Startup (Bay Area) Team: Data Path Base: 150k Bonus: 15~20K (per year) Stock: 50000 units (projected to be evaluated $4/unit by next year end) Relocation: N.A. Little bit about me: ---------------------------- Me and my wife live in bay area (no kids). Wife (also a software engineer) is very supportive. I just purchased a house, and now I am confused what to pick, any suggestions? Pros & Cons ------------------- Bay Area: - Better Climate - More Opportunity - House - Wife won't have to look for job - If startup goes IPO, willmake a lot of money - Won't have to sell/put my house on rent Seattle: - Better compensation - Potentially better work - Cheaper real-estate - Bigger Brand - Less Excuse me, the pole was supposed to be between Amazon(seattle) & Mid-size Startup(Bay Area)
Yoe ? And move to Seattle for a year and move back
7 Years. I would make the same amount in the Bay area offer if I come back in an year.
No I meant change companies. Take all the joining bonus and swich
Wife’s TC? Are you on a visa?
No you won’t make a lot of money even if your startup IPO. You’ll only realize the paper value of those RSU.
Last evaluation of the startup was done in 2014. They have steady clients with a good product. As What I am hearing, they are planning to go public by next year end.
Yeah they are always going public next year. If they do go public you’ll be lucky to realize the full paper value of your RSU grant next year.
Poll may help
Go for Amazon and get your wife into a better paid role in Seattle as well. Change is good. I opted for Amazon for 2 years and moved back to Bay area later on. It worked wonders from stock and comp perspective
Amazon grew a lot in last 2 years, stock almost doubled. I don’t see it happening now. Go if you like EC2 and can handle the weather
Agreed, RSUs for 4 years far fetched.
Amazon's offer is the no brainer. Unless you hate money, I guess.
YOE?
