Amazon L6 to Microsoft L64

I was recently promoted to Sde 3 in seattle. My target comp for 2020 is 225k (at grant time). How long does it usually take for an average performer to make the 300k number (again grant time comp)? I am considering moving to MS L64 since frankly i have better chance of making the bump. I havent even interviewed yet but fairly confident i can get through. I have no hope getting through to fb, goog, lyft and airbnb. Yoe 12.

Why do you not have any hopes of getting though goog, fb, etc?

Dont have the bandwidth and inclination for months of leetcoding.

Why not Facebook, Google, Airbnb, Lyft or Uber? Actually I heard that Oracle Cloud pays fairly well in Seattle, better than MSFT.

OCI does offer well but not sure of its prospects. I am stuck in greencard backlog so frequent jumping is a hassle for me.

Then staying at Amazon is probably not a terrible idea. AMZN can go to $5000 a share if market doesn’t crash. There is no way MSFT will go $300 a share.

You are a lost cause. Shake a cup for pennies

Why exactly

He's from EY. Who gives a fuck.

L64 for 300K is almost impossible

Microsoft TqoN12 Jun 30, 2018

TC or base?

Amazon mzyQ25 OP Jun 30, 2018

TC. Not possible?

Amazon Hot==dog Jun 30, 2018

Wait. Shouldn’t SDE3 have a considerably higher TC?

Amazon mzyQ25 OP Jun 30, 2018

I thought so too but not always the case apparently.

Amazon Hot==dog Jun 30, 2018

Just sounds like you’re getting screwed. But of course, this is partially based on Blind yammering, which I suspect is inflated TC numbers. I hear about designers at FB making 300k for L5 and I’m like...wtf. Consider OCI though, I understand skepticism of their prospects but I’ve been hearing better things. Worth a look at least.

You should really be looking at 2019 comp, because Amazon no longer front load the rsus for next 2 years due to potential stock growth. They are trying to avoid cases where people get more than their target comp. Anyways, if your 2019 comp is good, wait until next year, and you should be in 280+ range for 2020 after review (and 350+ in reality if stock continue to grow with same pace) If that doesn’t happen, you can always jump outside. If comp is the only reason you want to leave, you may not get much benefit, assuming stock growth is good.

Amazon mzyQ25 OP Jul 1, 2018

2019 comp is good. Due to stock appreciation ofcourse.

You're supposed to look 2 years out (2020), not 1, unless you were given stock 1 year out. 220 sounds low... You were applying 15% y/y stock growth? You should get to 240-250 on promo, and it will go up from there.

The work you’ll do there is far inferior and more boring. Money can’t buy cool work
