I have an L7 PM offer from Amazon. TC 420K. The way the holiday timing worked out, Interviewing in Nov/Dec, I didn’t get to interview with FB. I had previously spoken with an exec recruiter but we never got to a specific role. What’s more, FB leveled me at Director, which is higher than Amazon did, so I’m keen on at least turning over that leaf. I think I can push Amazon to give me until Jan 15... A) If I let the exec recruiter know about my offer, is FB likely to be able to arrange interviews first week of Jan? (I’ll ask obviously). B) For someone with 15+ years experience, is a Director role at FB likely to be lot more attractive? (They can obviously also level me down).
Thanks. I’d be fine with whatever level TBH. Comp would need to be 500k+ to make it attractive, which it sounds like it would be at the level below. The recruiter had discussed some openings which show up as director. FWIW total experience is 20 yrs, but I take your point.
For L7 it should be. I'm a 7 and quite above that, but I've been around for many years. I'd guess new offers should be around 250-300 total cash, then stocks, which is usually great at these levels.
Total comp at M2 in FB should be more like 600k
What team in Amazon? Would probably advise Facebook, but some AWS teams might be awesome as well.
Yeah its AWS and the team / work are pretty awesome...
Director title at fb is pretty prestigious, I would go for that if comp is same or greater. Which company are you coming from?
L7 at Amazon is not director. If you are chasing titles go with FB.
Don’t care at all about titles but do care about comp. I’d work for AWS for less but question is how much less...
At either L7 or director your comp should be higher than 420 at fb.
Thanks appreciate the input!
Go for Facebook, L7 @ Amazon is sr manager not director, directors are at L8
Thanks for the input. One is bird in hand, other is in the bush :) let me see if I can at least get the offer.
Had a VP of Network Services at Windstream (5th Level, we had two levels with title of VP, 4 and 5). He is now Head of Global Network Scaling and Integration for AWS, based out of DC. What sort of comp would this title command in the Bay Area?
Director at fb will have even more scope and influence than a director at Amazon
He is not getting director role at Amazon, L7 is senior manager. So it's a totally wrong comparison
First off L7 PM is senior manager not director. 420k sounds right for the level. That maps to FB M1/E6 which has usually higher pay and equal or larger scope. FB director is D1/E8 which is two bands higher than your Amazon offer, so even if FB can extend you M2/E7 offer you should go for that.
Levels.fyi doesn’t have much data at these levels. Do you have insight into M2/E7?
@cout<< What about it?

Most directors have a lot more experience than 15+ years, so don't count on being leveled there. More likely to be M2/L7 at most. Comp would certainly be higher than 420 total.
Many internally promoted with much less experience
