L7 seems like a wide band at Amazon. Where would someone managing ~40 - 50 ppl team belong within the L7 band? Low, mid or high? What should be the expected TC?
Team of what? Developers? Cats? Dogs?
Developers and EMs
Salary for this role?
That's exactly what I am trying to figure out :-)
500k TC was floated to me for L7. I didn't get the offer, though.
This is towards high-end TC 500k and above
I am L7. For scope I have 30-40 people reporting into me and four managers, which is middle of the band. For TC I make 450, which is low part of the band.
L7 SDMs at Amazon usually oversee 2-6 "two pizza teams", so I'd say the range is about 15-60 indirect reports (lower in less established spaces where they're growing a team, higher in more established). Any less and a single L6 SDM could handle it, any more and there is a decent argument for them to become a director.
Thanks for all the replies, ppl! Summarizing: - this is about mid to mid-hi within the band - TC ~500k (some ppl reported even lower comp) I trust this data and find it a little surprising, because this is actually ~10% lower TC than one would have made as 67 at Microsoft (for 120, which is average). I thought Amazon TC was higher...
The L7 TC range is quite big. It goes from 450 on the lower end to 650-700 on the higher end. Your comp depends on performance, not how many people you manage. If you are hired externally, youâll be typically offered somewhere in the middle of the range.
My move to amazon form msft was 590k fwiw. Not common, leadership knew me and specialized domain... in 67, assuming no stock appreciation, I would need to get much more than 120 for 2-3 years straight to get there (unless things are different now?)

In what plane of existence do kids make sense at all?
40-50 is probably the low end of L7 headcount.
Thanks. Any idea about TC?
Not really. There are a couple of L7s in my org with less than 20
