I’m not actively looking, but was contacted by an Amazon recruiter for an L7 TPM position. They want to have a 20 min phone chat. I was intrigued by the position, but feel I need to do my leg work before anything further. To help me decide if I should consider pursuing this, which I know will be a lot of prep work: 1. Is this 20 min chat just a get to know you call or a phone screen? What can I expect? And what would happen after it? 2. I’m an IC at Microsoft. Is L7 necessarily a manager position? 3. The position is in the Ordering Platform group. Any information to share on this group?
What’s your level at msft ? L7 TPM mayn’t be necessary manager position. It will be a general talk
L65. Yes, I know L7 usually maps to L66+, but I’m supposedly about to get my promo, so we’ll see.
Say you made L66 this review.. will be a much smoother conversation..
The call is where you will ask all the questions you need to. They’ll run the beginning of the call and then once they’ve given info, you can ask more questions for clarification. Don’t be scared to talk things out with your recruiter. They’ll talk about what the next steps are too.
L7 TPM is not a manager position. A manager title on the same level is Senior Manager, Technical Program Management. Ordering is in the core of ecommerce services and it’s got a bunch of very talented and dedicated people - so as a Principal TPM you will get to know Amazon inside out. The call with the recruiter is your opportunity to learn more about the team, describe your career aspirations, and see if it’s a good fit for you. You’re likely to be working with one of the more senior recruiters, so they can help you out with navigating the team and Amazon in general if you determine that Ordering is not right for you.
Hey.. how did it go.? Can you share some insight about the call..?
What level @MS?
