I have 2 YOE since graduating. But during college and high school, I have a ton of experience working different low wage jobs to make it through school. I never bring them up in interviews because nobody cares. But, say I worked a ton of customer service jobs, would interviewers care if I provided a customer obsession story related to that and not my current job? Like I did call center work and food service. Just grasping for as many leadership principle examples as I can think of
LP examples from recent experience but if you don’t have one, why not from college or school examples. Something is better than nothing.
Yes, absolutely cite it if that’s the best set of examples that you have. Examples from outside of SDE work actually make you look more leadership-endowed and personable, as long as you have technical competency covered through other talking points.
"Once when I was scrubbing the toilets at McDonald's I found a mobile phone in the toilet stall. Even though it was not my job I took the time to find out the owner's information and made sure he got back his phone. I think this shows both my customer obsession and my ownership"
And ability to scrub the toilets thoroughly. Thats diving deep.
The HR said they prefer examples from most recent experiences
