My wife and I are expecting a baby. My wife is employed full time (not at Amazon), but does not have any sort of maternity or parental leave policy through her employer. She does have short term disability insurance (through her employer) which pays her salary for up to 8 weeks while she is away. I would like to use Amazon’s Leave Share program (get paid double base pay for 6 weeks, with the idea that this covers my wife), instead of actually taking 6 weeks off. Will we qualify for Leave Share? Technically, I think I do because my wife’s employer doesn’t offer “paid parental leave”. I’m just not sure though because she does have short term disability.
What on Earth is Leave Share and why would they give you double pay? Are you sure you work at Amazon
Alexa boy are you sure you are working at Amazon?
Yes, you can use leave share.Amazon will pay you for all 6 weeks.
Ask HR.
Well, I think that I'm qualified more than HR. And my suggestion is to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. Circumvent the normal system and see if you can't just double your base pay
If I ask HR, and explain the short term disability, they might say no. If I don’t, then I get 6 weeks of double pay. To get the leave, all I have to do is sign a statement saying that my wife is not eligible for “paid parental leave” through her employer. My real question is - will they ever look into my wife’s employment benefits?
