Amazon PM Onsite Interview

I am interviewing for Amazon Sr. Product Manager - Tech role and I had one round of telephonic interview so far. I got an email from the recruiter stating that I have been shortlisted for the onsite interview (which is supposed to happen 1 month from now) and I have the option to participate remotely or travel onsite whichever I prefer. Anyone has ever encountered this kind of option? Which option should I choose?

As a technical recruiter i used to give candidates the same option. If you really want the job then you should go onsite. It shows that you are motivated and committed to get the job. Also makes it easier for you to get a good read of the interviewers.

Makes sense... Have you worked with Amazon previously? Just wanted to get an idea on whether they cover the expenses for travelling to the onsite interview

I did my Amazon interview remotely. Position is in the UK and I'm in Australia so it made sense (some of my interviewers were in Europe so it'd be remote any way). I offered to make the trip, but they set it up as remote. I agree that doing it in person gives the advantage of being able to pick up non-verbal cues from the interviewers. However, doing it remotely meant I had notes on hand and could make sure I hit the points I wanted to regarding LPs. Guess it worked out ok as I got the job. Amazon will cover your expenses.

Thanks. This helps. Which position were you interviewing for?

Travel onsite. You don't need notes. Know what you're doing. Know what your value is (as in what you can bring to AMZN) and have make sure you have a good memory of situations where you've done it before. The interviews will generally be in the format of "tell me about a time when you...." "Yes - but what specifically did YOU do..." "What could you have done differently" For the tech part, they want to know how you think. Can you adapt. Can you ask the right questions. Can you solve the business problem. MSFT now, but I loved working at AMZN when I was there. (TPM III)
