Hi guys, I am joining Amazon HQ as SDE I (I am paid as new grad package because I was stupid that applied for 2019 SDE position, I didnāt know it was for new grad). I couldnāt negotiate anything with recruiter. What should I do to get promoted within a target time? How long is a good time for promotion? TC: 108/24/70k YOE: 20 months Thanks! š
It's ok. I've heard this happen to my friends in CS. Just work hard and switch around, you'll be back on track in no time!
Thanks. Hope to get there soon!
I'm surprised they even let you apply/interview as a new grad.
I didnt know either. I applied a bunch of jobs from amazon.jobs then once I got offer, it was moved to amazonUniversity.jobs š¤·š»āāļø

I have heard about re-levelling, talk to your manager about this
Iām starting in 2 months. :( Dont know who is my manager yet
No need to talk now, u can talk once u join. It would take around 6 months
lol how the hell is 20 months "YoE" too much for SDE1? You're an entry-level engineer if you have 20 months of industry experience. SDE1 is the level at Amazon for entry-level engineers. Go work on your promotion but stop acting like you should be on a different level if you really honestly have not been in industry even a plural number of years.
If he had listed days of experience, it might have worked out better

Look at you complain about something that's clearly your fault. To get promoted, make your intentions clear to your manager and kill it at work. There's no secret.
I admit I was stupid. Not complaints š Thanks for the insight!
Lol I wouldnt say OP was complaining at all. He/she is accepting his/her mistake and taking advice for how to get to a place they'd rather be in. No need to be a prick
