Amazon SDE1 Compensation Bay Area

Recruiter told me I passed the loop but am being offered SDE1 role instead of SDE2. What should I target/expect my TC offer to be? I have 3.5 years experience, with masters, and in the Bay Area.

Ouch

New grads return interns with masters are getting 170k in the Bay Area, so I’d start there. If you’re being offered an sde1 role, that means the bar raiser didn’t think you met the sde2 bar.

Thanks @pupper41. Think it was the LPs that got me :(.

Screw them. They are low balling you. Anyone above 2.5 years of industry experience should be SDE2 TC if not SDE2 title.

It's IBM though

He has more experience than a fresh graduate. 3.5 years is a lot more than a fresh grad. All I'm saying is that compensation should be more than a fresh grad.

Unless you get a very good offer, at 3.5 years exp you should only accept an Sde2 offer. If you accept Sde1 offer it can take upto 2 years to get to Sde2. And then you will only get the min Sde2 wage. I would very highly recommend to reapply in 6 months and come in as Sde2 at the median Sde2 wage.
