I have 2 offers on hand. Amazon is offering around 215,000$ annual comp for Seattle location. Apparently LinkedIn is offering the same for San Francisco location. I am confused with what should I chose. Amazon obviously makes sense money wise but I really feel work environment at LinkedIn would be much better than Amazon. Frustrating part is LinkedIn recruiters are not ready to budge on numbers Teams Amazon : fashion tech LinkedIn : one of the recently acquired startup
Recommend Amazon, $215k in sfo is like $180k in seattle
More like $150
That’s a myth too. Depends where you commute from. You can live in the east bay and have a BART commute to SFO of an hour. That way you are paying almost similar rents if you’re renting. For me $215 SFO = $190 in Seattle + Sun all year
Better culture, WLB and frankly I feel better challenges ( depends on team though). Amazon will burn you out in 4 years or less.
Like always it's team dependent so take this with a very big grain of salt
@obiy54 - if you share the team details at both places then feedback would be easier to give. Otherwise, work env & wlb wise: LinkedIn. Don't worry about the TC..not a big factor here.
SF is considerably more expensive then Seattle. Not a big factor?
@hsl44528q - fair qs; at the level indicated (3 YOE) by OP, being in SFO (expensive area) is an ok trade-off as Seattle is of course opportunity rich, but not as rich as Bay Area still. 😌
Amazon: Fashion tech LinkedIn: in one of their recently acquired startups
I'd say go for 'LinkedIn', based on the team description but if what the Oracle(@redvsblue) fella is saying your thang then Amazon is hell of a brand! 😎
Glint ?
Try to make Amazon budge on numbers like get it to $230-$240k and just go to Amazon. You’ll get stressed out but you’ll learn a lot. 215k is too low for SF. I wouldn’t move there with less than 300k. Your offers make me assume you’re young person with less than 3yoe so perhaps you care more about impact and TC, not necessarily WLB. If you get stressed out at Amazon, can always leave after a year. Other companies love people from Amazon because they know a lot.
Lol LinkedIn is only considered high tier because of their comp. The actual work and learning at Amazon will be much, much better, as long as you are in a high growth area. I am not familiar with fashion tech, but it sounds like a promising area.
What is fashion tech? Is that the “make clothes on demand” efforts? If so I’d take that in a second. Will revolutionize clothing manufacturing over next 5-10 years, and every other manufacturer will need to compete, so you’ll have some really critical domain expertise.
Do you have any pending interviews?
Yoe?
