I am a SDEII working on the path to SDEIII at Amazon. By working on, I mean I have a chance but not in pipeline. My estimate is end of 2019 or early 2020. I received an offer from OCI as IC3. Based on levels.fyi, I feel like it’s a bit backward. Also, considering the reputation of OCI, it would be hard to get back to same level if I move back to FANG later.

My question is, In OCI hard would it be to move from IC3 to IC4?

Also, what do people think about people moving out from OCI? When I interview the candidate, I wouldn’t care too much. No matter the business is, engineers could have done good job which I will evaluate during interview. However, maybe not everybody think the same way.

TC is reaching low SDEIII zone in amazon though. Around 280k with 175k base and 80k RSU each year, and 20k signon. It’s a hard decision for me. About 40k more than I am now. Also, I have more than half of my TC now from stocks. As stocks dropping, its more temping to take the offer.

    Take the offer.

And don’t worry about coming back to FANG. Amazon will definitely take you back atleast as an SDE2 or may be even SDE3. Regarding FNG, you should start leet coding or you would end up in amazon allover again like the last time.

I like OCI. I was sde 2 at aws, came as a ic3 2 years ago. Got promoted recently to ic4.
TC: 265k for ic3, now I'm at 390k with promo and last year increase

Is it true that OCI prefers AWS guys over rest of Amazon? How difficult is it to get in as ic4? How many design rounds, coding there?

I think it is true. That's what I heard on blind.
Usually ic3 promo is super easy to have
IC4 is ok/medium hard, less hard than sde3 at amazon for sure!
      Ic5 is super hard

Interesting. One my friend had 3 coding and 1 design round. Not sure what level he was interviewed for. But I guess at OCI interviews are not standardized, every team runs their own.

Ic4 is high level sde2 of Amazon. From your description of 2020 sde3 promotion it tells me you are mid level sde2. So ic3 is correct level. What’s your total experience?

Disagree with the above posters being stuck at IC3. They must have garbage leaders. IC3 to IC4 is a regular occurrence on my org.

Problem is garbage leaders are 1/2 of OCI. Crap shoot yo.

Only take it when you can get IC4. Otherwise you’re gonna feel stuck.

How many yoe? I would not take it. I’m telling everyone to run from Oracle. It will ruin your career. I’ve been IC3 (maybe low IC3) at OCI for 20 months now and no promotion in sight. I now have 5 yoe. I constantly feel like my performance is stacked against IC4s and IC5s on my teams which is weird to do that so I didn’t even get bonus or raise because I’m at the bottom of the totem pole.

Go somewhere else like google or Facebook or uber.

I guess I was never given the chance. I was in operations. Oracle favors SDEs.

Are you from AWS? My understanding is that OCI likes sdes from AWS. How difficult were the interviews? Which org in OCI did you interview with? If DM is better let me know.
