Hi - i got a verbal offer from Amazon last week as Sr Product Manager, L6. The compensation numbers were not shared yet. I have seen a few posts discussing L6 compensation for SPM at Amazon. Does my current pay matter during negotiations? If I am making 200K in Atlanta, how much more can I expect in Seattle? One more Q - can I also ask to interview for a L7 principal role? Is that common?
L6 range for pm in sea maxes out at around 260/270.
Thanks Guys ! Isn't Principal Product Manager a L7 role?
Yep but it’s not likely you would pass the bar for it if they gave you a verbal for l6. The gap is large and without a fb / google counter you’re not making it up there.
Is it a Product Manager Technical or just Product Manager? It makes a difference for comp. Current TC is not relevant.
What would the base pay be for an L6 senior prod manager?
Base pay for every role at Amazon is capped at $160K. If you’re asking for TC, I don’t have hard numbers, but if I were negotiating, I’d aim for $250-300K.
250
If you interviewed for an L6, impossible to get an L7. Also 200k in Atlanta is more like 400k in Seattle, sorry to break your bubble, but L6 PM-T tops at 260 in Seattle (PM even lower).
This range makes sense to me given what I know. If I recall, L6 -> L7 is a pretty large jump in comp.
If you recall? I don’t think you understand how pay bands at amazon work. The top of L6 band is just below the bottom of L7 band. Most people who get a promo will be TT and be move to HV at next level, leaving a very small jump between L6-L7. This is most common for promos but of course there are exceptions (eg, you are hv L6 and get promo to L7 - would result in large raise)
Current pay does not matter alot
Thanks for all the advice
Can u share the comp you were offered by Amazon?
Haven’t got exact numbers yet. They said they will be generous and competitive with my current pay

L7 is pretty uncommon for product manager roles. Also, I would think $300k is a good target based on what I know.
300K is too high for L6 PM. But you can always ask for it if you like hearing no. No one will stop you from having that experience.
230-250k is the current range for L6. Range is set mostly. Getting in as L7 is going to be hard. Very hard is what I hear...these days unless you were the CPO at a decent sized company somewhere else.
