Comparing three roles in which order they are better in terms of career growth, importance in company and compensation they can be ordered? I am being considered for all this position and asked for second telephonic interview after first one which was for Sr SDE. Curr position: Sr SDE TC: 250k Exp: 12 yrs Location: Bay area
You’re L6 in BA with 12 YOE and TC is only 250k?
Groupon stock not paying enough
I am not L6 but Interview ing for the Amazon position
Sr. Solutions architect is a customer facing role. Tech bar is way lower than SDE. If you want to be an SDE do not move to that track. Comp is similar to SDE a level lower. Sr. SDM is an L7 role - a full level higher than Sr. SA or Sr. SDE. This is a very senior role, generally leading a 25-50 person org. You are not in the running for Sr. SDM so don't even worry about it.
AFAIK the L6 SA pay band is equivalent to the L5 SDE. L7 SA is a Principal role and likely equivalent to an L6 SDE TC.
Are you an SA?
Sr sdm > Sr sde > Sr sa
Thanks all for the explanation. Not sure which of my telephonic answer lead the interviewer and the recruiter to think for second screen on technical side. I thought probably because my first round wasn't good enough but now a level higher mean it went really well. But let's see how the process go forward.
Simple question: Do amazon hire Sr SDM from outside and that to someone who is an engineer and not a manager?
Hiring from outside? Yes. Hiring a non-manager? No. We wont even hire SDM (L6) who has not been a manager. Sr. SDM (L7) must have experience managing 30+ people to be considered.
Sr SDM then Sr SDE then Sr SA. Wondering what recruiter you are working with who is considering you for all 3 roles. Sr SA is a customer facing role and Sr SDE loop is a very senior role and from what I remember those interviews are different from a normal loop
For “telephonic” prepare with Leetcode mediums! For “ordering” comp. Sr. SDE (L6)/L6 SDM (at whatever role you can show more strength). Sr. SDM (L7) is out of question!
