Amazon Toronto working on the last mile delivery as sde3, stripe Singapore working on payment as senior backend engineer, FB Singapore working on ads solution for Southeast Asia and China as senior swe. Which one to pick?
Fb
If Singapore I’d almost pick Stripe over FB. Reason being that they are establishing much more of a product team than Facebook (placing a bigger bet on it). FB Singapore for true product eng is still in a form of trial mode. With less of an important remit to the whole company than stripes product team. That said the eng manager for ads at FB Singapore is super super solid.
That's what I feel. Through the interview, I can tell they are all very friendly and Stripe Singapore are doing more important things. The engineering team of Facebook Singapore didn't feel like very confident about the future of the engineering office.
Facebook doesn’t have a strong record in opening up new eng offices successfully. History of lots of important products moved internationally only for them to be moved back to MPK. Took ages for London & Tel Aviv to succeed (relatively). And Tel Aviv is still a bit of a crapshoot. This helps explain why their bet is so small in Singapore even though APAC is the majority of their user base and growth. And soon the number two region for ads. That said keep in mind that FB Singapore overall is much more established as an office (~3k people) than Stripe (<200 people?).
It’s an office that has 3000 people pretty much exclusively focused on ads. Meaning sales, marketing, partnerships, comms, etc. Certainly very few SWEs (like you say) and maybe the same amount of Partner and Solutions Engineers.
Yes, I feel they are doing the ads bidding tools for the SEA customers especially for the China market which has special network firewall.
If you're interested in SG, consider Indeed SG. We've a fast-growing tech office there.
Thanks, I will spread the words that you guys are hiring
How is the TC in indeed SG? Do you offer RSU?
I don't have the exact numbers, but I guess it's on par with Austin. We don't have RSU, instead we've something called LTIPs which is calculated using the growth of the company in 3 years. Some people also get anniversary bonuses to compensate for the 3 year LTIP vesting.
How difficult was the interview at FB compared to Amazon? Did you interview in Singapore? I would choose FB for sure. Singapore has very low tax rate and I imagine the nett salary is a lot higher in Singapore
Comparable, Amazon has 4 rounds while Facebook has 5 rounds. For my experience, I cannot tell which one is harder, keep in mind that Amazon has more behavior questions.
Yeah, I hate those leadership principles questions. From my experience, Amazon asks mainly leetcode easy questions, because half of the interview is "wasted" on behavior questions. While FB asks much more technically challenging questions, e.g. lc hard
It’s hard to compare without TC and level
TC?
