- Don't expect anything new until year 3 as long as the stock performs well. They only give out new refreshers after year 1 and year 2 to make you whole in case the stock price dips and cannot meet your target total compensation. But it's rare for year 1 and 2 since you're mostly getting paid in cash from your signing bonuses.Mar 1 2
- Okay, makes sense. But what I meant was do you get refreshers for sure irrespective of whether your current RSUs (vesting percentage) match up to the TC for that particular year (year 3 in this case)? Let’s say your TC stays the same in year 3 with no bonus but 40% of the vesting that’s allowed in year 3. Does one get refreshers then for sure? Or is it again case by case, or some clause again?
- Your initial grant will cover the first 4 years. If your target TC doesn't change the first 4 years, you likely won't get anything new to increase the TC the first 4 years outside of the stock appreciation.
Each year, you'll be considered for comp increase based on your performance. If you perform well, your target TC will increase accordingly. But, keep in mind that the stock may still appreciate and your actual comp may still be higher than your target TC. In this case you still won't get new refreshers that will vest during your first 4 years. The new grants you get during the first 4 years will account to make you whole for year 4+. In some cases if you don't get promoted during the first 4 years, you will see a drop in your total TC because your target is lower than the actual TC during your first 4 years attributed from the stock appreciation. However, your target TC should still be higher than what you got at time of the offer.
Hope that makes sense.Mar 1 2
- As per the recruiter, there are 3 levels under sde2. I could be wrong too. Btw how much tc did you finally manage to negotiate for your position?
