Amazon offer timeline?

Listed below is what's happened so far - Is this the normal pace? What more formalities can I expect? How to deal with competing offers?

1. Recruiter calls saying 'we'd like to move ahead with a formal offer' (verbatim), says can talk comp next day. He was busy, so that gets postponed indefinitely. Team SDM also sends me a congrats mail same day.
2. I get a call 2 days later (couldn't reply to my emails in between, explained he was busy with sth)
3. He sends me an informal email with all offer details via email, same day as call.

I decided to accept, let them know 3 days ago. Its been only 6 days overall since offer email, and I've sent multiple emails regarding completing the process, but no replies so far.

I have about 4 other offers atm (Uber, G, Stripe, and a backup), and some of them are pressuring me into deciding faster since I interviewed with them way earlier. Although they are all on par in terms of TC, I like the Amazon one due to the type of work/domain/team/culture.

What are my possible courses of action? I don't want to reject other offers until the Amazon offer's on paper, but the non-responsiveness feels like a mixed signal.

    Be frank with the recruiter. I have other offers to consider. Assuming that you truly do have written offers with real deadlines ... don’t be untruthful. If they want you, they will hurry things up. If they don’t change behavior...take it as a flag you may ought to move on.

    For perspective I interviewed on the 24th. Got a verbal “yes” the following day. Still waiting for actual numbers. (Promised for today). And don’t expect anything written until next week at the earliest. Bottom line: it is slow.

      Okay, that bottom line is what I was looking for. Didn't know what was normal since some of the other offers moved way faster. But they're also probably worried about me shopping around. Only one written offer with a formal deadline, so I guess I'll have to drop that or take a chance with them.

    • I had a competing offer, I let the recruiter know and that definitely improved the speed. Recruiter set up a call with hiring manager as a sell since I have a competing offer. Everything else after that was super fast

      Use the SDM. All recruiters have a deadline by which they need to close. Yours doesnt seem to care about it, but the HM has more incentive to get you onboard and they know hiring quality candidates is hard. Don't wait - escalate to SDM immediately

      2.5+ yoe. HaseebQ's prep plan, LeetCode+Skiena, Designing Data-Intensive Applications (P1 and P2 only), spent a lot of time practicing narration of past experiences for behavioural rounds - Amazon&Uber. It was only a month of prep, but I wasn't working full-time, so had a lot of time per day.

      - Did 50-60 LC (mostly medium), company specific Qs for Amazon, Google, Uber - looked at about 150 problems, but didn't implement them all, just worked them out in my head and looked at Discuss for approaches. For problems I solved or reviewed, put down comments in LC editor and reviewed them pre-interview. Used Skiena as reference, for intuition.
      - Practiced with a few other companies early on: online tests, a couple of onsites. Google wasn't great (required follow-ups), but helped a lot because I had better time budgeting strategies for subsequent interviews.
      - Went through Kleppmann's Designing Data Intensive Apps book: didn't read cover to cover, but I did two reads: first just gloss over subtitles and take notes based on them to understand structure of topics covered, and a more detailed read of specific topics 2nd time around - like breaking down problem and optimizing later.
      - Since I was interviewing for SRE roles too, read a book on networking upto layer 4 (TCP/UDP), a book on UNIX/Linux internals and one on systems troubleshooting. Again, didn't read cover-to-cover, just previous strategy. Failed FB systems interview for a PE role, but that helped tons to practice these topics.

      Note that about 2 years of my experience was super relevant - building highly scalable distributed web services for another recent unicorn (helps since you already get motivations for most system design topics), and add to that I was just out of college doing math before that, so still in touch with most things academic.

    Yes. Definitely email SDM and cc recruiter. SDM will follow up if recruiter does not respond.

    Yup, escalate thru SDM. Recruiters closely work with the SDM.

    May be You can tell them, you have another offer but this with xx is what you are more interested in.
