Seriously so many low caliber people who can BS real good but are not technical and cant code made it through by bullshitting in these behavioral questions. Whats the point? These questions are easily fake able and you can make any story highlighting those LP a night before. None other faang companies ask them. In a 45 min interview, after 5 min of intro and spending 20 mins on these LPs there is just not enough time left to assess someone coding and analytical abilities considering you have to give the candidate 5 mins at the end for his questions.
Maybe behavioral questions are a subtle way to assess language and communication skills.
Maybe the ability to BS is what they value most 😉
Well, both technical and LPs are important. Your technical evaluators just suck.
LPs are a bunch of BS. Disagree and commit. Wtf this is a workplace with data-driven decisions not a friggin marriage
Db8db4 dont try to cover up amazon short coming only coz u work here. Every sde at amazon i know agrees this is a bunch of bullshit to ask behavioral questions in interviews. They can easily be prepared the night before the interview
I have seen lots of loops debriefs where bar raiser will be inclined coz LPs were strong, even though there were some concern on coding and tech ability. The reason was tech is teachable while LPs are not. What BS? One of this hire made it to our team and he was a major pain in the ass as he was not technically strong, and would require us to hold his hand but he could BS really good during meetings.
There is actual research paper about which LPs are ingrained and which are easy to teach. Same goes with coding. Understanding abstract notions (problem solving, algorithms) is more ingrained, learning new language can be taught, for example. I haven't been in your debrief, but it seems no one had backbone in there.
Im not talking about just one debrief, but many many of them with different bar raisers. Im pretty sure amazon bar raisers value LPs over tech ability.
LC is best. Subjective questions lead to corruption in hiring. See how many South Asian folks at Amazon?
I think google does it best. The interviewer walks into the room, shakes hand and get to the whiteboard within 2 mins. 40 mins are spent there and last 5 mins for follow up questions.
I think google is worse because it’s just a bunch of f*cking leetcode goons. Irritating af. Here’s an example. Hi we’d like to consider you for our role in building houses. Now please perform a gymnastics exercise while we sip our tea. And no you are not allowed to build a miniature house. We want to see gymnastics. By the way, after we hire you there will still be no house building, and you aren’t allowed to use your hands. What am I, a dog who does tricks on command? F*cking google interviews.
I enjoyed my Amazon interview because of the behavioral part. Felt like I actually had a chance to highlight my experience and challenges I solved.
Your behavior already seems to be bad 😀 A reasonably good interviewer can easily tell if you are faking the answer. It’s actually very hard to give compelling honest answer to these questions , most answers will be diluted and lame.
Most senior people (or dev failing to become senior) do so because of LP. Not technical skills. So yeah... fuck you. Just cause you’ve seen failure to apply the technical bar doesn’t mean LPs are “bullshit” or easy to fake. Sounds like you should be on pip and not interviewing.
Ok 😢 let me get on my PIP right away. I am self piping myself.
Aws Palo Alto is filled with such BSers.
