Amazon team matching after interview

Is it common for the recruiter to search for another team based on your interview performance? Has anyone gone through this and successfully been hired? How long can this process take?

I haven’t heard of this happening, but I’m non-tech. Afaik it wouldn’t be a normal practice.

Same thing happened and never heard back from the recruiter

Did you get a verbal offer though?

What was the recruiters wording? It’s pretty typical if the you interviewed for was not inclined for them to say they will “keep you in mind” for other teams. That doesn’t mean they are actively searching, and you would have to re-interview. What this usually boils down to is you didn’t outright bomb the interview, but missed the bar for the particular role you were applying to. If you were to reapply to a different role in 6 months, they would probably be happy to interview you again.

I have been through exactly this. I interviewed for an SDE2 role but after the interview the recruiter said that though I wasn't selected for SDE2 they are making me an offer for SDE1 and will start looking for SDE1 positions. It took about a month for them to find a decent team. But I utilized this time to interview with other companies and used the Amazon verbal offer to negotiate.

Actually, Yes. I get quite a lot of these “candidate looking for a team” requests. That’s why you have to treat your recruiter well. They could be very helpful when you needed her the most.

It's called 'reject and recycle'. Usually involves a downlevel or a 6 month-1 year wait. If there is a timeline it will usually be communicated like 'hey it would be great if you reapply in 6 months'. Sometimes it's a downlevel (they think you are Ln-1 from whatever they were looking for). Sometimes it's nothing to do with you (they had their req pulled at the last minute) in that case they usually find s new team really quickly.

The recruiter said that everyone liked me and agreed that they would like to see me at Amazon but felt this wasn't the right role. The recruiter also said she is actively looking for roles with other teams to find a better fit.

I've done this for a scientist role. Candidate was stellar and level was correct but didn't have the NLP experience needed for the role. We asked the recruiter to find another team. This was done at the phone screen stage.
