Hi, I have received offers from Amazon (Seattle) and Bloomberg (New York) for New Grad SDE role. Being a new grad position, I don't know the teams I will be working with at both these companies. The offers are comparable with Bloomberg offering a higher base and Amazon offering RSUs. Which company should I prefer? TIA.
Bloomberg
Lol
Why would you say so? Do you have any experience to share which might help me decide between the companies? If yes then would you mind sharing the same?
Amazon
If you’re a single dude I’d choose Bloomberg for NYC. Amazon if you care about your career a little bit more...
What is your priority? Personal life? Building a professional career? Earning $X/year by age Y? Either way, you should lay out a five year plan for yourself. What do you want to have achieved in five years? That will help you ask the right questions, which will then help you make the right decision. We don’t know anything about you or what you value, and therefore any answer you get from the people on Blind will be based on what those people value for themselves, which may not necessarily align with what you value.
Ask for Amazon NYC - this is the best option given you are young
Bloomberg sucks, don’t fall for the bloody aquariums
Whatever you say Sucka
It’s the truth
How did you like your onsite interviews? How did you like their offices, people and culture? Which offer was harder to get?
Bloomberg onsite experience was wonderful! Amazon was all virtual and I haven’t yet talked to any person, all communications have been automated till now. Interviews of Bloomberg were tougher and more communicative than amazon.
Do you know which team did u interview with?
Hard to say. At least half of Bloomberg teams use internal tech that would be laughed at anywhere else (e.g. crappy tools for creating XML API's). But many teams work in the latest tech, and are solving interesting problems. Some of them have excellent automation and internal tools. It all comes down to which team you match with. The benefit of Bloomberg is that WLB is amazing and there's no forced attrition. (Amazon annually fires the bottom 6-10% of engineers in every department, regardless of skill.) If I were you, I'd only join Amazon for AWS, in NYC or SF. And even that would be a hard decision - career growth at the expense of misery. A good team at Bloomberg could be just as good, but you won't know which team you join until a few months after joining the company.
BB TC is much lesser than Amazon in general , across all roles !
At the entry level Bloomberg TC is the same, or higher. Amazon TC is only higher with >4 YOE
Amazon's TC will be higher if u stay for 4 years right. That also might be? Sometimes ppl just can't stay for 4 years. BB is good for tech just need to be in the right team. Great WLB good tech with right team and great company brand. But I agree not like Amazon Google etc
