    Google is leagues above amazon but so is the bar. Good luck!

    Edit so others can see:

    ===Google===

    ✅Much better TC and amazing vesting schedule. You get stock vests every year.

    ✅Better benefits like food and medical, 401k

    ✅ No bullshit “fragility” principle which Amazon uses to cheap out on employes

    ✅ Nicer management and you won’t get Pipped (Amazon has a thing called a PIP which gives managers an excuse to fire you.

    ✅ Smarter people (Amazon hires anyone half decent tbh. I came to my interview after drinking 2 margaritas and I passed easily. Would have gotten destroyed at google)

    🚫 Much harder to get in compared to Amazon

    🚫 Often won’t pay high unless you match an offer

    ===Amazon ===

    ✅ lower bar so easier to get in. As I said, I was basically drunk in my interview and got in.

    ✅ Easy to transfer to different orgs and teams but the pay doesn’t go up much when you do.

    🚫 Horrible vesting schedule. 5% vest in year 1, 15% year 2, 20% in year 3 and 4. Good luck getting more stocks after year 4.

    🚫 annoying frugality principle which let’s them be cheap. I had to request an ergonomic desk so many times before I got it approved.

    🚫 no free food, only free bananas.

    🚫 management is very toxic and arrogant.

    🚫 many unhappy employees

    🚫 promotions are very random and difficult.

      G of course. Used to work at A, liked it a lot. People here make it sound like a no brainier decision. It's not. Depends what you want.

    All I’m saying is why work on something that is already well established such as Android. You will most likely get thrown into something along the lines of kernel optimizations or working on spinning out a new flavor/distro, whereas at AWS you will actually get the taste of scale from the de facto cloud provider for the Fortune 500. I’m not belittling the feat that Google and the Android team has accomplished. I’m simply stating my opinion.

    Impact of Android vs AWS seems rather insignificant in my opinion. If I had to choose, I would either choose AWS or go with Google and try to switch ASAP.

      People who get PIPs are like cutting the fat off a ham. Someone like you who has landed both of these offers are unlikely to receive a PIP if you put that level of effort towards everything you do.

      You're generally going to have the "best" peers and systems to learn from at Google. Many things at Google are a certain way because of Google's needs and infrastructure, and lots of modern open source systems were inspired by Google papers and sometimes authored by people that left Google. Facebook is quite similar in this way, and many people at Facebook came from Google. Problems here are definitely "first world."

      You can and will learn great things at Google by your own volition. At AWS I suspect you will end up learning things out of need.
