Amazon vs Zalando

I am an Indian with around 3 years of work experience. Currently working as a Product Manager at one of the unicorns in India, valued at 7bn USD. I have 2 offers and I'm a little confused about which one to pick. Would love to get some suggestions : 1. The first offer is from Amazon India - Amazon is offering me an L5 Product Manager role in their India office. The team is good - critical to the business. It seems like a lot of work, honestly. But they are also offering me a decent salary. 34l (25l base + 15l fixed bonus(over 2 years) + rsus (mainly vested over year 3 and 4) 2. I have another offer from Zalando (a fashion tech company) in Berlin, Germany - also valued at around 7 bn USD. The product I would be owning is also very critical to the business. However, they are offering me <60k Euros. I would also be required to relocate to Berlin. My short term goal is to pursue higher studies - maybe an MBA in the next 1-2 years (preferably from the top 10-12 business schools in the world - US and Europe). So I guess my question is which of these jobs would be bigger value add to my profile for the applications to the top 5 MBA schools in the US and maybe, INSEAD? Kindly share any advice that can be helpful in making the decision. Thanks!

From a pure pedigree and on paper perspective Amazon would appear to be the better choice. However the experience of moving to a different country (Germany) and working there in an obviously different work culture might offer more life lessons that you can draw from.

I agree with nuance. Amazon is going to be a better name for your resume, but the international experience will also be helpful for your resume (for both your next job as well as for MBA applications).

Zalando offer is a joke bro. If you can get into Amazon or Ola. You should be able to get better offers elsewhere in Europe who is willing to offer 100+ euro.

OK thank you. This was helpful. Unfortunately, I think salary standards in Europe are a little low and I'm not sure if anyone who is not in the senior level can draw a salary of 100k euros. In your opinion, is the Amazon salary low as well or is it as per market standards?

We can't compare these two offers. They have obvious differences which would make the choice personal. I would prefer to leave where you are from and try a different culture and work ethics. Money has never been my main worry, possibly because I am still young and believe I can make up for it. Good luck with the choice and congrats!

Thank you. I understand your perspective. I actually do want the exposure and travel across Europe and that was my primary motive to apply. The Amazon offer and its appeal in MBA applications just made my decision all the more confusing. :(

I was approached by Zalando sometimes back for lead engineer role (L6 Amazon equivalent). They were talking about 80-85k. I still didn’t go ahead as research showed me I am saving more in India. Remember tax is high and rent is crazy in Berlin for new comers. Finding a place in itself seems very challenging unless you shell out 1500 euro.

Do you regret it? Was it only savings that helped you make your decision?

You can’t get 100k in berlin without 8 years experience. Some start ups are offering CPOs only 120k.
