Americans only. How much do you expect your salary to increase if H1B/H4 EAD were totally banned?

H1b is not the problem. H1b abuse by service companies is.
If there is no H1B, the companies will just ship the jobs overseas. Yes, a few people with niche skills will always be in demand with or without H1B, but for the most part you will see reduced hiring in the us from the big tech and increased hiring in other countries by the same companies.

This! It would also lead to US economy slow down drastically.

I don’t care about economy, because economy doesn’t care about me. I have to pay taxes that goes nowhere and on top of I have to pay for everything else

Economy in the US is not for middle

      Pinterest - that's silly...
You still make some of the highest wages for a tech position in the works. Do you think that's due to to your good looks? People everywhere else is dumb?

You are very lucky to benefit from this economy

Why would salary change at all. A tiny number of people being excluded from the workforce won't change anything

It's not a tiny amount. It's 100K people every year. The number keeps adding up.
      Mar 15
    • 100k out of how many? 10 mil? 0.1% dude. Do the math. Are you in engineering?

The employed population is 90m. 100k jobs come and go every month. This is tiny.

EA, 100K out of 10 mil is 1%.

If you’re going to call someone stupid you should really try to present a more coherent argument. Your rambling could easily be described as ‘stupid’

If there were no competition from pouring H1B, there would be no need to Leetcode to get hired. There was no toxic Leetcode hiring 10 or 20 years ago.

It will just encourage companies to ship jobs overseas. Most companies struggle to pay engineers as it is (when you exclude the faang companies printing money and a few others) - you cant just pay any amount - the business needs to somehow make it back.

A lot of companies dont have an overseas presence because of the risk and high set up costs. Once companies will be force to look for talent elsewhere and they pay the initial costs it will be extremely hard to get the jobs back

The real question is which country should American Tech workers emigrate to? Canada? India? Bangladesh?

As a FANG employee? Probably not much.

H1b and the abuse thereof hurts low level tech workers a lot more.

It would be a big impact to US and boon to other countries like canada, china, india and countries in EU.
Most of the jobs would be moved out of US.
I hope this happens one day so other countries would develop.

100%. With most of the tech coming from other countries banned, few Americans with tech background will be the new kings in the land of nursing and social sciences

Lol, if H1B is banned, you'll be out of a job. The top jobs will move to Bangalore and Beijing. And the mediocre jobs that Americans get to do today for filling the gaps in high skilled jobs that immigrants do (such as making sandwiches and maintaining legacy code), will also eventually go to Indian and Chinese people in their respective countries instead.

It won’t. The tech cos will simply move out of the US. There is no way they can sustain only by hiring American workers.

Salary will most definitely increase in the short term if that happens.
Then they’ll find another way to depress wages.

There will be a salary decrease - companies will start creating jobs outside of the US and the demand will slowly shift outside of the country.
