Analysis of Apple’s slowdown in China

What’s going on ? Is Huawei beating Apple in the Chinese market ? Or is the brand weakening ? Or do people no longer want to overpay for a brand ? Slowdown in consumer Spending? A combination of above factors ?

All of the above. Good observation.

Thanks. Am not familiar with the market forces there but read some interesting articles to form these observations, hence they are not my own to take credit for.

I think Apple has some great products and a huge cult following. I switched from an iPhone to Android because of price.

They started throwing away the most usable features of their products and subbing them with useless shit that looks snazzy or even worse -useless shit that looks like shit.

One more reason - Nationalism. Once the trade war started, there was state sponsored media encouraging people to buy Huawei or other Chinese brands over Apple. China had (still has) a tiff with Japan over the Senkaku/Diaoyutai islands. At one point there were riots outside the Japanese embassy and Chinese people targeted others driving Toyotas, including vandalizing those cars and beating those drivers up. The state police just stood by and let it happen since non-state sanctioned demonstrations usually get quashed immediately (the most famous one with tanks running over people).

Good analysis. Any thoughts on slowdown in consumer spending ?

Just an excuse. Price performance ratio is the key reason.

Because brands like Apple take chinese consumers for granted.

Command Alkon EQHx83 Jan 13, 2019

No... Apple takes all customers for granted ... In the next 5 years it's over . Apple has one year to get into the $300 price range or they're done .

Was browsing smartphone offerings from leading Chinese brands - Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, oneplus - they all look super nice and powerful. Who in their right mind would pay 2x the price to get an average looking iPhone with okay-ish performance?

Intel (⌐■_■) Jan 13, 2019

People who are brand conscious, which the Chinese certainly are, accounting for a majority of luxury goods purchases worldwide. Problem is that the Apple brand is losing a bit of that luster due to ubiquity, nationalism, and competing smartphone manufacturers reaching near UX parity.

Maybe we see what the numbers are before we start the deathwatch. All Apple released is a guidance. We’ll know the actual numbers in 16 days.

I have been a loyal iPhone customer since iPhone 4 and this year switched to pixel 3 xl, which was selling at $500 after discount. New iPhones are just too pricy and somewhere down I was angry with them they never give any good discounts on iPhones, they just take us for granted.
