I have the opportunity to interview for the same Google position in Ann Arbor or Redwood City, and I need help deciding which location. Currently based in the Bay and not a huge fan of the area. I think it may have to do with not being compensated well enough in current role. Should I give it another shot at another company, or just leave all together? Also, for those familiar with Ann Arbor, are Sales promotions more likely out there or in Redwood City? Not that interested in Sales, but would be open to using it as a transitory role. EDIT: Am interested in marketing roles long term. What are chAnces of working I the AAS role for a year than transferring to another role and city after a year? I know the COL in bay is significantly higher than AA.
Inside sales is in Ann Arbor..is that what you want to do?it is far from glamorous and promo path would probably just lead to more sales roles.
I don’t want to be in Sales at all. Currently working in HR and hate it, figured the associate account strategist role would be a good Segway to more business oriented roles. I want to go into marketing long term!
... isn’t the account strategist role = sales? Lol
I’d take Ann Arbor over Redwood City as a SWE every day or the week and twice on sundays because Silicon Valley might as well be Sodom for church life. If you’re sales, the answer is a no brainer. Go to Redwood City, but the fact you need advice on this question makes me doubtful for your sales career prospects...
Not really that interested in Sales, but was sourced by a recruiter. I just don’t want to make a shitty decision, so looking for opinions. Wouldn’t want to be in AA for a long time. Trying to eventually make it back to east coast.
Why is Ann Arbor better for a SWE?
If you're single, Ann Arbor all the way. The women are insane, in more good ways than one
Started at G in AA; the tc was 🥜
As in good or bad? Could you elaborate a bit more on your experience? How long did you spend there?
Spent 1 year then doubled TC at Cisco, but then went back to Midwest in Chicago at a startup now. Peanuts is bad!!
