Any McLaren Owners?

Jun 22 54 Comments

Owning a Mclaren someday is a long-term dream of mine. What's ownership like? How's it stack up against other supercars? Do you ever regret your purchase?

Include model and TC in comments if possible.

And then take all that money to your grave, dreaming if owning a McLaren one day.

Owning an expensive depreciating asset is like marrying an elite escort. I can imagine a dream like that, doesn't mean it's practical.

Everything in life doesn’t have to be practical and everyones dreams don’t have to be the same. There are 100s of places you can be practical but sometimes doing the impractical thing gives a lot of joy and happiness. It need not be a financially wise decision but I believe, if it gives you “happiness”, you should do it.

Stfu everybody here knows cars are depreciating assets. Question was regarding the experience of a mclaren compared to other similar super cars. Nobody wanted your money advice. This isn’t the place.

Folks Need to stop judging. Some people like living with their parents and eat beans and rice as grown ass adults with 300k TC so they can retire a few years earlier, other people wanna buy a mclaren, drink mojitos, party in Vegas, stare out the window at the Mykonos islands, lay out on the deck of a yacht...... damn, I know what I wanna do.

  • Just get a motorcycle, a Yammy R1. Way cheaper, faster, more fun.

You shouldn't be driving anything that fast on the street. Tracking that R1 would significantly diminish your desire to go fast on anything on public roads. I am all for that. I also believe riding a motorcycle makes you a much better driver since you're pretty much always in survival mode having your eyes around your head. You also get a different perspective on being on your phone while driving.

So, don't get an R1 as your first bike unless you will take it to the track exclusively. It is an exhilarating experience going 100mph with your body tucked next to the pavement. 👍🏼

  • Not a current owner but have had lots of seat time.

Typical super car stuff. Faster than you can use on public roads, gets a lot of attention, not very comfortable. How it stacks up against other supercars is completely irrelevant unless you are spending tons of time at a track. Hard to live with every day as a daily driver.

I wouldn’t buy one. I don’t go to the track and prefer a car that isn’t terrible to commute in.

People who CAN afford one, also have a place to store it and can afford the maintenance. Those people do not post here

Being able to pay for it and being able to pay for it without a second thought are two different things. The fact that you have to do a “one year contract” to pay for it tells me you can’t.

There are a lot of things we can all pay for, that doesn’t make it a good idea.

    • You’re an idiot.

I have to work briefly to buy an exotic car therefore I’m not wealthy enough to have one? Guess you can’t afford a house or your kids’ college then?
      Jun 22
    • Oath Atinlay2
An idiot would buy an exotic car. I promise I have more savings and TC than you. Trust me, based on your comments you have zero business buying something like that.

People who can truly afford it can buy one with the money they find in their couch cushions and not think twice about it. Those people do not post here.
      Jun 22
    • Bullshit.

I can’t buy an exotic car with couch pocket change therefore I can’t really afford it?

Good god you meet some stupid fucking people on blind.

  • I had an m2. Dream car for me. I was so happy to turn that car in at the end of the lease. Fk car insurances and gas.
    Jun 22 2
    • OP
So it was your dream car but you were happy to get rid of it? An M2 Competition is high on my list too so I’d like to hear more about it
      Jun 22
    • Cuz im young and in a city the insurance is expensive and when ure driving an m2, saving gas isnt high on ur todo list lol. It gets expensive after a while. When u lease that car, add insurances and gas into ur monthly car payment

They are, it certainly isn’t a sound financial decision. For some reason that got you all spun up. Most of the people here can’t “afford” one, parking it outside at your apartment next to your carolla doesn’t count.

    • New cbbu61
Yeah, it isn't for someone who can't afford one. Your bias dictates that you can't and so you're hurt about someone else making a decision about their finances that you don't know the first thing about. Lol, get outta here with this stupidity 😂

    • Oath Atinlay2
I can go pay cash for one right now, I even have an empty garage bay to store one, but that’s not important to anyone but you.
      Jun 25
    • New cbbu61
You can't afford one unless your assets can buy one for you today and another one tomorrow if this one catches on fire.

What's important to me is to keep peasants in their place, it's my thing. Sort of like it's your thing making stupid statements about something you know nothing about. 🤷‍♂️

Not everyday use friendly. The only car in that category that you can drive everyday is a 911.
    Jun 22 1
    • Yep. People forget that a 911 Turbo is pretty close to a McLaren 720s in performance, but it’s $100k cheaper, has a (small) back seat, has good visibility out sides and back, is easy to live with every day, and for that class of car it’s reliable and surprisingly cheap (comparatively) to maintain.

It costs $400 for about 5 minutes but you should at least be able to compare a few cars to see if you really need a McLaren. Don't underestimate cheaper sport cars (e.g. Corvette)
