Wondering as I stuck with my full office job (obtained after my STEM undergrad) as there weren't any opportunities to use my linguistics doctorate. Loved my research and miss it terribly. What are the rest of you humanities doctors doing?
I doubt that linguistics is a purely humanities field. If you have analytical/quantitative sense, can't you just dive to natural language processing?
I wanted, and still want, to do that exact thing. Sent resumes to Apple, Google, and a couple of others, right after graduating; never got a response. (Never got a human to look at them, I imagine.) My own company, Rakuten, also is in that field, but they don't want linguistics PhDs; you have to be a comp sci grad.
My sister has history PhD. She's stay at home mom.
Wish that option were open to me! Unfortunately I have to be the breadwinner.
