tl;dr any of you used candor or a service? how much did it cost? any basic suggestions besides what they have online? ———— Background: I just got my first verbal “moving forward with an offer” call (Apple) and now it’s finally time to start negotiating. Actually really liked the team and happy to join them. I already told them that I am interviewing at other places and gave a timeline. And then sent a message to 3 of my other companies that I’ll need the process to move faster (looking at you google!). I tried to schedule most my onsites close. So most are within a week though 2 not scheduled yet (5 companies in total). I’m thinking about canceling one scheduled onsite though. It’s a startup and they have some pretty bad glassdoor reviews. I’m afraid it’ll lower my negotiation power though. The 4 other companies I’m willing to join either if comp is high enough and/or perhaps less if it’s more interesting/better growth. Google/Facebook being high on the list. Curious about services since I realized I realy screwed myself my first few companies. YOE: 6 TC: 🥜 at tiny seed stage startup (options worthless) Hoping for: 🥜x2 Bay Area
How much does Candor charge?
No idea. Can’t see on their website. Guessing it’s case by case
Does candor do negotiation on your behalf ?
No idea. I don’t think I want them to though. I just kind of want to live message someone when I’m on the call lol. And then tips/tricks on how to go about things. And what should I disclose and what should I not.
1) besides negotiating for salary , rsu and sign in bonus , what else is there to negotiate ? 2) didn’t companies like google take offense at talking to someone else and not the candidate during negotiating ? 3) if you don’t mind , how much did you end up paying for their services ?
Re: 10xascend. Nice people and easy to work with, but a word of caution. 1) The service isn’t able to yield anything other than current comp match or competing offer match for FAANGMs. This is because big tech has very strict bands etc. 2) Read the consulting agreement VERY carefully and seek legal advice BEFORE signing. It’s written in such a way that if you don’t get any improvement or even fail to sign a deal you’ll have to pay. (5% of base + sign on) 3) You can exit the agreement before you sign you employment contract and it’ll only cost you the $3500 retainer.
It depends on how much you prioritize TC. In general I don’t think the service would be super useful as the leveling and pay band information for FAANG is pretty much public knowledge at this point. That being said, if you have a lot of offers to manage it could be worth it, if only to remove the hassle of negotiating. Maybe send 4/5 offers to Candor and see what they can do, then use the best offer they get against your first choice culture wise.
