Where? How was it? Worthwhile?
Close friend of mine did it. Interned in a large fund in Toronto and was offered 80K base with a 25K signing and a 20K year end bonus. Was promoted after 1Y with base pushed to 100K and bonus probably at 40-50k Above is all in CAD, but in Toronto these are really strong numbers.
I'm gonna do it just for fun. Soon as I know what city I'll stay in for a while
NYC and Baruch although I have an odd love.of u Chicago due to their sick stats and probabilists
Yeah I'd do Baruch also since I'd be paying out of pocket. NYU would be nice. Right now I'm on the west coast so Stanford would be the option
What jobs does one get with an MFE these days? A long time ago I strongly thought about applying for a program, but decided to go work in consulting for a few years first. Wondering if I missed out on anything.
I have an MFE degree from top school. If you're making 250k+ as a developer stay where you are. Most portfolio managers or quants I know don't make that much until 2-3 years out of the MFE. Some don't ever get to that TC honestly. If you're ok w 140k base plus 80k+ for several years, then I think it's worth the fun. I loved doing it when I did, but I'm done with this career. I'm making more where I am now (not a quant anymore)
But in long run, portfolio manager will earn much more than developer right?
Depends on how high up? No clue
Financial engineering? 🤔
Yea I'm guessing not too many on here but I figured I'd check
I have done it. 100% worth it. Depends case by case. Reach out to alumni of schools you're looking for. The reputable ones I remember are MIT, Caltech, Cornell, Berkeley.
