Any reason to continue interviewing at FB? (Internship)

Just got an offer for Google SWE internship working on ML-based system. I’m highly interested in ML. I am on second round for FB internship, is there any reason I would take FB over Google at this point? (I heard FB team matching is done after accepting offer; is it possible for there to be an exception / guarantee of a ML team?) Follow up: Recruiter said no exceptions, so I’m going to be working at g :)

No, if you have the guaranteed ML spot at G, you’d never trade that for an unknown spot at FB. They’re not going to change their hiring practices for you.

If you're interested in ML, isn't Google THE place to be? I can't speak for other companies but Google places very strong emphasis on ML.

How is the possibility of networking / learning from outside of my team at G? Most of my team is going to be backend/infra engineers, only my manager knows some ML stuff, and my project is really open (from the ground up.) I’m pretty confident in my abilities but also am worried I might not get the best learning experience.

Continue interviewing to get a counter-offer

It never hurts to have a counter (or backup) offer on the table. Also whether or not you accept it, it’s great to walk away knowing you were able to receive offer X from company Y. Don’t burn any bridges and if you decide to leave Google in the future, you’ll already know that you can go to FB. For now I would just inform the FB recruiter that you have an offer from Google. This would at least speed up the interview process.

"..am intern... very interested in ML." Ya don't say?

It’s definitely overly popular but some of us are serious about studying statistical learning :)

Push FB to fall

to me, semester long internships don’t make sense as there’s no reason for me to delay graduation (the marginal benefit of a second internship is probably worth less than the opportunity cost)

The benefit of having both FB and Google internships on your resume are huge in salary negotiations when you graduate esp if you're applying to well funded startups
