3 passive incidents I encountered in the past week during ride-sharing alone. These are 15 minute rides which I'm summarizing here. I stay quiet and listen, I don't respond to these btw. White male, 45-55 years old: Asks dozens of questions on my visa status, how a transfer was possible, what work I do, why can't someone else do it, etc. Proceeded to turn up the volume during Trump's rhetoric on radio news, followed by "You hear that? Trump is not going to allow immigrants to stay here" African American woman, 30-40 years old: Long spiel on how AMZN, FB, Google don't hire local African Americans, but only hire Indians as SDEs displacing them from places they were brought up in. White Eastern European woman, 25-30 years old: Indians are the only people being hired in high paying jobs because 'their degrees are valid in the US', and no other ethnicity gets opportunities in the US. I am an unmistakably Indian guy wearing a tech logo'ed hoodie through all these instances. I am going to safely assume these were not well intentioned. I've lived in the US for 5 years in tech cities, but there seems to be a marked increase in anti-Indian sentiment in recent times. The current Government has successfully emboldened these people to say what they always felt. End of rant.
What on Earth is wrong with you? How the hell is that anti-Indian? Get that bullshit out of here.
Had similar experience while traveling in Bart
Buy a car so that you don't have to give a damn. End of the day this is not our country and we don't belong here. Make enough money so that you can live in India comfortably and then leave.
Yup
FYI - not every brown is an immigrant . Color of the skin has nothing to do with who belongs here or not . This is the land of immigrants. It is not their comments thatβs offending you, seems like your own insecurities. Reading up on American history, laws, helped me get through this. You donβt owe anything to anybody as long as you are paying your taxes. Keep your head high, and be proud of the innovations and contributions of all the immigrants in this country. Ignore the losers.
Why give a fuck! As long as you have a good job, your colleagues are awesome, and you are learning everyday and are getting the right opportunities to move ahead, you will conquer all. labor omnia vincit - my friend. All the rest is just complete crap. Pay no attention. Wherver you go in the world, be happy, spread love, be brilliant
Just casually brag how much you make and rub it in.
I had similar experience..I told him the no. of interview rounds we encounter..2 telephonic..2-3 technical f2f, 2 design, then behaviour and HR. Its not easy and thats why we demand high pay. He was silent after that..
you should leave bad review and report them to uber
Just move to a different country. Not worth putting up with this
Come on man
Subtly let them know, they are entitled to nothing. If they choose to pursue a fucking arts degree, they cannot magically learn to code.
This. When I was interning at my first work with a small mom pop IT firm the daughter of my boss was just starting her undergrad. She took shit load of loans to go to an awesome school to pursue her dream of theater. Now she is hardly making ends meet. I get there should be freedom to do what you like but at what cost? Then you drive Uber and blame immigrants who gave up their passions to make a good living for themselves and their family.
Except every one and their mom is learning to code now. Mass influx of coding boot camp art major And Econ major grads
Seattle or Bay area ?
