I am thinking if I should join AMD on H1B receipt (from Qualcomm), very similar profile. The team has an office in Canada, so they can relocate me or something and reapply. I believe if this transfer doesn’t go though nothing will. So I better relocate to Canada now than later.
👍🏼
You need to get these things in writing. I know many guys who got abandoned by companies on the street. If you join Microsoft or Amazon it's an entirely different story. They don't abandon any one on the street for Visa issues.
Agreed. This is still AMD. That’s why just curious.
That's exactly what I was thinking as well. If this trasnfer doesn't work, there's a high chance of others not working as well and I'm gonna have to be a slave to my current company. It's better to risk it and fuck off than be stuck I guess. Need to start my life over and probably have to break up with my gf, but still not being a slave wins over anything man.
If you H1 gets rejected you will have zero negotiation power. You need to agree on any crap they says. I would say to stay put in your current job get an extension in joining date. Many companies are willing to wait till approval now. Recruiter will always push you to join on receipt but you can always push back. It will take another 2 months for them to find another candidate .
True but what if I get these in writing?
Then your 90% safe. No company is genuinely interested in your wellbeing. Then can say sorry anytime.
Yeah I think we second guess our credentials. I am also on H1B and in all essence we have to see if the job is really a speciality occupation. See if all people follow things and rules its easy for everyone. The laws in this country for the most part are fair.
How do you check if the job is a speciality occupation?
So speciality is skills which are not thought in school and are essential for job. Like Programming can be learnt but Baseband architecture for say Wireless is special skill one picks up and skill which is not available readily
If you have strong case and back up in writing then go for it
