Is it separate from The Walt Disney Company? What is it like working there? Considering applying but haven't heard too much about it besides Disney +. Who are the people that work for Disney +? Is it just completely integrated with all of Disney's other projects? Please provide as much info as you can! Thanks in advanced!

Disney Streaming Services doesn't outsource much compared to other parts of Disney.

It's part of The Walt Disney Company. Bulk of Disney+ is the team acquired from BAMTech. They're known as Disney Streaming Service (DSS). Product is Disney+. They are predominantly based in Manhattan and SF. Also have a few decs in UK from small talent acquisition prior to Disney takeover.Tech stack is scala, aws and a little bit of Python and golang. They handle browse, playback, and personalization. Not sure if DSS works on encoding or if that's the Walt Disney Studio team.

Had the opportunity to interview with them but they wanted me to move to NYC so I decided to pass. I would have done West Coast but don't have a strong desire to move back to the East Coast.

Majority of engineering is from bamtech media acquisition. The rest of the org is all new hires to support espn+ and disney+ marketing, fianance, product, analytics, etc. Startup-like in the good and bad. if you believe in the product and brands then you should be fine.

15 YOE in Java, includes 8 YOE in Android.
All media companies outsource a lot. Digital IT dept are cost centers. Teams get hired and fired in matter of weeks. Processes and technology are more or less non-existent. Disney+ may be a little different from what I have learned but the pay isn't top class.
