I’m enjoying my job quite a bit, but I’m starting to feel stuck due to some budgeting constraints. Not sure if I want to move on just yet but I’d be interested to hear if anyone knows of any big names in design around the DFW area? That is, any companies that are influencers in the field, or exploring interesting/unique opportunities for design. I know we have Intuit, Sabre, TI, Cisco, AT&T (lololol), and a good number of startups, but I’m wondering who I’m missing. It seems tech here is very telecom focused and there a gigantic lack of interesting design opportunities.
I don’t know what precisely “design” means, but Capital One has pretty nice design for banks and treats employees really well. I know Toyota moved in. Pepsi. If you’re only interested in big tech companies, you won’t have a lot of choices. What does HP do these days?
I understand where you’re coming from. I kind of intentionally just use “design” to be vague, because at my current position, it’s difficult to pin myself to a single “type” of design because I kind of do a lot. Though, if I had to choose, I’d probably say I mainly do UX/Interaction/visual. When I asked the question, I should have clarified that I’m looking for organizations that are big influencers in design as a field, or are doing work that provides unique design opportunities (some examples of companies I’m talking about might include IDEO, Frog, Apple, Microsoft etc.). I forgot about Toyota! I bet they’re doing some interesting stuff. Not too sure what HP has been up to, might need to check them out. Not sure I’d be up for PepsiCo, though that’s for reasons I can’t say here. I’m definitely not just looking at big names, one of the few companies I was considering is a startup accelerator. The startup scene here is pretty booming, but it’s also pretty intimidating, it seems like there are a million startup up but only a few that stay up, though I guess that’s just the nature of the field.
