My apartment is up for renewal and theh hiked my price by $350 making total rent after renewal $4340. however, on their website same type of apartment in same complex is available for $4180. my issue is that moving will probably cost the same as the price hike. can i negotiate my renewal? Ideas on what to do?
I think you’re out of luck. It’s a typical strategy of large rental complex...
Moving will cost you $4,200 (over a year)? Practically, do you have a roommate? If you do, have them get a new rental in the same building at the lower price. Then the move is easier.
It’s me and my husband. So I am really not sure how much a move will cost within same area actually. Thinking $1000? So with the $250 hike- and with move we only will save $2000 overall. Is it even worth the move to save $2000. Plus I am pregnant
Yes negotiate.
Get a raise.
TC?
Which rental complex / property management is this? Name & shame.
Find somewhere else in san mateo. my friends are renting 1000sqft 3 bed 1.5 baths for 3600 a month in san mateo.
Wow! Which apartment complex?

I can't believe you guys choose to live where 1100sqft is $4.3k in rent. You could buy a condo for that size in Chicago and your monthly would be half.
Because your salary would also be half.
Not after taxes
Ugh. This is why those “new” development properties suck. Honestly find a mom-and pop rental unit that may be a bit older but won’t give you massive rent increases.
