Apologizing for my fellow Iranians

I am an Iranian. Have been in US for more than a decade. I want to apologize for what is going on in blind by fellow Persians. I also have Indian colleagues who supported me through the ban. Many of them are stuck in decade long backlogs and to ignore their plight is classless and inhumane. It's not just me, there are many folks like me who feel the same. Someone I know posted similar replies, asking folks who are opposing the immigration bill that removes per country cap on Twitter and the 'student' folks basically bullied him to take it down. I'd really appreciate it if my fellow countrymen on blind (and other places) stop attacking others - it's embarrassing and some of them are gruesome to read! I want to apologize for that. I wanted to make this post to make it clear, not every Iranian is against removal of per country cap in the green card queue. I guess we all at least agree on one thing - we hate niac. Rant over. PS: I know this will provoke anger on me, but I am not going to respond to trolls. At least you can't force me to remove this post. PPS: The comments here only confirm what I said above.

Buddy it's great that you are apologizing about something but for those above who don't know what's going on, it helps to set the stage by giving some context before assuming that everyone know what you are referring to. I would modify the post to include some intro as to what the context is.

He is taking about Iranian lobbying against removing country cap quotas for Employment based GC

Oracle stupidd Jun 25, 2019

It's literally everybody, including Chinese, lobbying against it except Indians.

DoubleVerify Karius123 Jun 25, 2019

Oracle The Chinese actually support it, since it benefits the EB5 holders.

Context for those who didn’t get it:- Today employment based green cards are ironically issued by country of birth in a country where even asking the ethnicity of an employee in a interview is a huge legal mess! This results in arbitrary GC wait times —where someone with a Masters born in a populated country like India could be waiting for a decade while a new grad with a Bachelors from Iran can get a GC in a few days. In addition to the obvious discrimination by birth, this leads to skilled immigrants saving their money offshore due to temporary status of their visas and going to their home countries to start businesses. To combat these problems, a bill is pending in Congress that eliminates discrimination by country of birth. Many Iranians, not wanting to give up their privilege of getting GCs sooner want to keep discrimination by ethnicity alive, and have been cyber bullying those who advocating for a ethnicity Blind first come first serve system.

Well put! Also like to add, there are other problems - If you came to US with a kid of age 6, when they turn 21, they are kicked out of the country, even though US is the only country they have lived and can't understand the culture of the country they were born. If u thought this is like DACA, it is with a small difference - these kids and their parents stayed legal everyday of their stay in US. Of course, we should punish them for their country of origin, right? This is the punishment that some folks want to retain. People who have been here for 15 years on temporary visa, when they die, their wives and kids are kicked out immediately. I know at least 2 of them who left the country, even though they have been living for more than a decade and had to leave in a week, while they were grieving. Many won't accept promotions to managerial role or lateral changes to product manager, because being one is harder to get approved with temporary visa. This causes wage supression, since folks are not asking for raises and is hurtful to the labor market. A freer and mobile labor force actually drives up wage. I sometimes wonder if these consultant companies are paying opposers, as they are the only one who lose out (if folks can get GC soon, they can't hold a leash on employees). Consultant companies' only asset is headcount - that's why they are called body shop. The most common opposing argument is, we want Merit based immigration. This is something I agree to. Except, they have no sincerity in their argument. It's just to oppose the bill. If they were really for merit, instead of opposing the bill, they would provide an alternate bill that everyone can support. None of these opposers actually have a bill. The merit based bills that they talk about are Sen Perdue Cotton bill, which reduces family immigration by half and has no support among Democrats and thus no chance of passing. These bills are for showmanship, not passing.
