Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
I've submitted my appeal doc, supporting docs and PPT. I have rehearsed a bit with friends. Any last minute pointers. Panel is mostly peers and one manager. Everyone really hates my manager and my manager is notorious for firing or making sure employees quit. Most of her employees quit in under 6-7 mos. I've lasted 6 months so far. I've refrained from saying anything negative about her just stuck to refuting the PIVOT entry form entries. any pointers would be helpful
Good luck! If your peers have similar experiences, you’re in good hands!
Pips never end well. Just make sure you have a contingency plan
If she lets an engineer go every 7 months how does she accomplish / build anything substantial? Is this representative of most teams at Amazon? Do managers get rewarded for being “tough” at Amazon? At Apple, there has to be a severe disconnect between you and your manager, a pattern of missing deadlines and low quality work. Even then you get sufficient warnings or a bad review before you’re put on a PIP.
It is not, but there is the scenario here that through forced attrition she lets go of the new people on the team to keep a steady group of people working.
I’m sorry I don’t follow. She gets new people to achieve a business goal and she lets them go to keep others working? “Everyone really hates my manager and my manager is notorious for firing or making sure employees quit. Most of her employees quit in under 6-7 mos”
Jesus. Whats going on there at Amazon? 6 months and already on PIP? What kind of company behaves this way?
Facebook does that too
What did you do to end up on PIP?
I am also having my appeal on Thursday. Have very little hope tho. I have 2 managers filing against me and I am convienced the pip appeal process is favoring managers not employees
How did it go?
How long on pip until they fire me
Every PIP appeal I know about has ended in termination and lawsuit, so...hire a good lawyer?
are you serious? brb packing my bags
Yes, I am serious. I was at Amazon for years. Once you are on a PIP, you’re branded in your group. So really your options are: 1) find a team that wants you, 2) find a new job, or if worst comes to worst, 3) be prepared for ligation if you think they unjustly put you on a PIP/if it leads to termination.
