Tell them to go fuck themselves. It's a very bad start imo, it will only get worse.

135 in Dallas is pretty stellar considering no income tax and way lower cost of living. If you only care about capital in this situation (not sure where family, friends, quality of life is on your list), Dallas might be your answer bud.

Are you going to be bitter if you take the Apple offer? If you answer yes, then you will be looking for something else very soon. So either ask for the original offer or walk. If you have an offer there, I’m sure you can get an offer somewhere else good.

    (1) A verbal offer isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on; (2) that sounds like a very broken HR process at Apple

Look somewhere else where they value their words!

If they value their words why did they change the offer. If the candidate didn’t do well they will reject. HR or the hiring manager is playing with candidate here.

They knew the results of the onsite interview by the time you got the verbal offer. Tell them that all good relationships are built on trust, and that you can’t start a new business relationship under these circumstances. That the only way to rebuild that trust is to honor the verbal offer.

      1) N say you would walk off if the original offer is not met. Glad you have another offer. Let them chase you.

      2) N politely try to see if you can get the other offer match current Apples offer. Nothing to lose.

Tell them that you will have to let the broader world know about their handling of this. Apple is such a train wreck for recruiting. At Amazon, offers are always approved by HM before sending out.

This confirms my horrible experience with Apple recruiting for a very senior role. Honestly, series A startups do better on candidate experience. Amazon recruiters may be mixed in quality, and ghost a lot during sourcing, but once we onsite you, you are a customer.

Which org? 180/165/25 is a decent ICT 4 offer for 10 years experience. Is this for a dev role or other? Were you relocating for the job at Apple?

Apple started on the wrong foot. There are people with the same experience who make more and do less and you’ll be unhappy knowing you let someone take advantage of you. Tell the recruiter to eat a dick and leave a review on Glassdoor.

If they emailed you the offer letter, respond via email ask why it is lower than the verbal offer. Let the recruiter respond on email. Not that it helps you directly, but it will likely scare the recruiter and work in your favor.

Red flag. Either the recruiter screwed up or HM revisited level. Either way they didn’t start right. If you have other offers use that and get what is the right offer for you. If they used verbal offer to get you on the hook and stop interviewing elsewhere that’s shady!!

What if they go back to the offer they originally offered? Should OP still accept? I think they pretty much knew they will lose the candidate if they lower the offer, regardless if they bring it back up or not. They broke the trust.

There are some roles that they expect you to negotiate such as business dev. It might be a test.

Another option is that they have a different candidate that they want more, and they try to make you leave the offer since they can't do that per their internal processes.

Do what's best for your long term career goals. swallow your pride.

If they want to hire someone else instead of OP, they will do just that. They can always retract a verbal offer, or fire him on the first day. It's employment "at will"

You receive an offer for a role and compensation.

They tell you your performance was bad and will hire you, for less.

What do you think this pattern tells you.

    Management by humiliation?
    Bate and switch?
    Words are different than actions?

The manager has a lot of influence in what the recruiter says. Especially after the interview.

Do you really want to work at a company or for a manager that is already trying to own you - when you haven’t even taken the job?

Seems the main qualification for the role is the willingness to roll over and take what is given to you.

If you like that kind of thing, go for it. Break out the punishment paddle.

WAT??? Just don’t join them! Apple was one of the top companies where to work in my list..but the more I hear about these stories the more I think I shouldn’t go to work there.
Offers are in average lower than the market. Signin bonus is ridiculous. I heard about several not respectful recruiters and now also that they don’t respect verbal agreements.
Basically they seems to be the opposite of what they try to sell.
