26 yo with 4 yoe based in India. Have offers from all 3. Currently working as a technical lead with TC 42L. Even if you're based out of India, would love some advice. 1) Apple | ICT3 30L base + joining bonus 5L + rsu ($74000) + 2.5L relocation + 5% yearly bonus ~ 48L/year 2) AWS | SDE2 TC is very similar to above except stocks and it's vesting schedule ~ 48L/year. 3) Spotify | Engineer II 660K SEK base = ~48L per annum + $66,500 stocks Taxes and cost of living are high in Sweden so I'll be saving comparatively lesser than the other two. Never had a dream of moving to Europe but open to trying it out but have no plans of settling there long term. I know for a fact that Spotify has the best culture among all three. AWS has mixed reviews but I feel I'll learn the most there. Apple, not sure about the culture and not sure about learning opportunities either. I'm having to choose between staying in India with good savings and strong brand (APPL and AWS, in that order :) which'll help a lot in the future vs lesser savings and living in Europe. Leaning towards joining Apple because of the brand and wlb. Any insights on any of these companies, quality of work and advice in general would be great.
Stockholm. QoL. Better than most places in earth.
Nope. USA is the best. The land of free. The home of brave.
Good joke!
Stay in Bangalore, Apple!
Y?
Can you tell me anything about Apple Bangalore. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into. Just that it's a very strong brand to have on your resume.
Check out Swedish taxes and cost of living. Stay out of europe
Spotify is a good brand but close call. Spotify or Apple.stay away from AWS Spotify will give you better QOL Apple will give you better growth most likely. Maybe you could work in Apple for a year and try transferring to an Apple office abroad?
thanks. Any particular reasons to be wary of AWS?
PMed you
Can you tell me how did you apply for Apple(Bangalore)? I couldn't find any job openings in LinkedIn
Try Apple's job openings page.
Apple TC increases every year as they give bonus and yearly refreshers. Amazon TC very likely to remain same for next 4 years unless you get promoted.
Yep. The recruiter informed me about this.
I would prefer India. You already know people there. Quality of life should also include social life. You will save more money in the long run. The are more opportunities. Only place I would prefer more is the West coast in US for the career growth
I agree. I have friends in Sweden who complain about getting lonely and saving less. I would still want to try it out at a later point though. Everyone has a different experience. :)
You can always take an extended vacation there and go backpacking across Europe. You could still do that while working in India
Please go ahead and ask your recruiter what Org your hiring is for. If it is for IS&T please read about it online before taking a call. The stock refreshes are massive in IS&T if quality of work is not a priority, however if it is you would probably be better off in Amazon / Spotify. That said if your org is different it might be better. Insist on talking to a couple of engineers from your intended team and then take a call.
It's not is&t but thanks for the heads up!
Op: really impressed with your career progression and current offers. Just curious to know, are you an IITian?
Yes. ;)
I am giving my JEE this year, wish me luck.😅

You will enjoy great wlb and probably other Sweden. Be wary of the weather and social circles assuming you are Indian. Language is another aspect. But it's not going to be difficult. Swedes are a bit closed and introverts, but fun once you get to know them
thanks. I'm a bit concerned about getting lonely yes because I would be living alone. Plus, would need to live independently cooking/cleaning on my own which doesn't excite me. :) Can easily hire someone to do chores in India.
You could try for a year and come back if doesn't work out.
