Folk, for personal reasons i am looking to leave Apple, I can’t do the Bay Area. I was wondering if I leave around 10/11 month in, will Apple request for me to pay back moving and sign on package? How will it work when the moving and sign on was paid out last year!!!

28 terrorist worshipping idiots just got themselves fired and I've never been prouder to work at Google.
My friend was asked to return the sign on but he ghosted. Anyway, why can’t you wait for a month or two?
Take personal leave for a month until your 1 year is complete. Talk to your manager that you need these days off. As soon as one year is up you can leave Apple.
Good idea, in the event I leave. How will the taxes be?
What do you mean about the taxes? Your bonus is already been paid to you in the first month of joining no?
Yes, but it was under 2018 taxes, now it’s 2019. If they request it back, that means I need to redo my taxes and ask IRS that I was overpaid and need my refund
You will most likely need to amend it with an updated w2 ( when you return and apple should provide with updated w2) explain your situation and see if you can take leave of absence rather than just quit..even h1b rules allow for this under extreme cases..
If you need to return anything when you leave this year, that is 2019 tax. Your 2018 tax stays factually unchanged as the return happens in 2019.
I did this after 10 months (my contract mentioned prorated payback after 1 year). They didn't ask for anything back. I did leave on good terms
They could ask for something back. As others have noted, they probably won’t. And yet as others have said, you only have a few weeks left. Why not stick it out? You can then say, “I gave it a year and just can’t do the Bay Area.” You probably can’t set up your exit in only a month anyway. Quietly get your ducks in a row and hit that anniversary.
Good idea, I’ll probably just do that
Thanks for the tips guys!!! Appreciate the support
I hope things work out for you I too am contemplating of running out of this place ASAP. I don’t remember the sign on bonus and relocation benefits payback clause If I leave after a year, will I be off the hook for both
Yes, you don’t owe anything after 1year.
I would recommend waiting out the year. You'll get RSU's as well if you do...
Why not just wait one or two more months? Why do you wanna leave the bay?
Personal reasons, dad health isn’t doing too well!!! Want to be closer and where I’m from. No Apple presence exists
Have been in those shoes, hope things work out op.
