I just had an onsite today, 4 technical interviews with 2 engs each, plus a higher level manager (not the HM) lunch interview. I didn’t get to talk to the director/VP at the end. I read on CtCI that if the day goes well that would happen, is that still true?
When I interviewed at CoreOS, their onsites were shorter and they would call you on a second day for the interview with the higher management of you passed the first interview. But when I interviewed at a different org (2 interviews with 2 different teams in 2 weeks), they were all day onsites with higher management interviews in the middle or the end. So I guess it depends on which org you are interviewing.
So maybe my lunch interview was considered the higher level management, I didn’t ask for his title straight up but from our convo I got that he was higher up than the HM.
Actually it’s standard to have lunch interview with hiring manager. I had it for all my Apple on sites that had a lunch in it. So it’s interesting that yours was different. But yeah possible that you had lunch with the higher management.
The hiring manager was my very first interview of the day. He was one of the 2 people in there.
