I recently interviewed with Platform Infrastructure Engineering team at Apple. I wanted to get some information about them so that it would be easy to make a decision if they hire ** how much visibility they have? Are they considered a good engineering org? ** would they be a good org to join for a distributed systems engineer ** does it have good opportunities to grow up the ladder as an engineer Also what’s the general TC for ICT4?
I know they are working on FoundationDB, Cassandra and Redis and etc... they also contribute a lot to open source
What exactly do they do?
Do not join. Although it’s probably better than Oracle.
Why do you say don’t join ? And btw I am not too unhappy with my work at Oracle. I don’t want to join another team just because it’s better than oracle.
PIE is what IS&T should strive to be instead of political red tape and contractors. I’m not saying PIE is flawless but they sure do produce rapid solutions needed by the organization without bitching and whining
I see that there are multiple teams creating the cloud infrastructure and platform services at Apple. There is IS&T, PIE, platform architecture for the h/w division, iCloud etc. what’s the difference and which team does what? In terms of engineering talent, which of these teams attract the best one?
Also a dumb question — PIE is not devops right?
PIE is nothing but a wrapper service 90% of time. Very few teams do original work.
What are the teams at Apple that do best engineering work in the distributed systems and infrastructure space ?
TedBae is correct- Also most of the managers in PIE aren’t technically strong ..
Is platform engineering team and autonomous tech org the same?
PIE is hot in Apple
Do you think that it has good opportunities to grow as an engineer ? Also is it solving good distributed systems problems?
Yepp! They do interesting work
