Apple recruiters texting?

I received a text from someone claiming to be an apple recruiter. No phone call, no email, just a text message out of the blue asking to connect.

Isn't this a bit unusual? Or has this become part and parcel of millennial recruiters? (Recruiters who are millennials)

Anyhow I replied (from my Android phone haha) saying when I was available to chat, and never heard back after 3 days. The recruiter only gave their first name...no other contact info. Ugh.

And then you will get another text saying you failed the interview. Try again after 6 months.

Bonus if you use iMessage. It is popular and preferred (way of communication) in our team. Didn’t know this until I joined Apple. It’s so convenient.

    • Why do they communicate via a personal channel relating to work?

Don’t know. Everyone likes using iMessage on Macbook. It’s usually group iMessage which we send files, pics, keynotes, ... everything.

    • Wow can't believe Apple would do that at the cost of convenience vs confidentiality

What makes u think iMessage is not confidential
      Feb 1
    • Nah I mean your info about your work can still be left in your phone even after you leave Apple. With emails / laptops etc, that can be taken back and access can be restricted, not with imessage

  • True story, I got rejected in an Apple interview cuz I told them I recently got a MacBook and have never tried coding on xcode yet, the role was for a PM in the dev tools team

Sorry to break it to you but you got rejected because you don’t meet the bar. When I joined apple, I had never touched a macbook and using iphones was a dream for me. No one cared because I aced the interview.

    • What team are you in? For software engineers it doesn't matter so much. Since I was managing the xcode and relevant coding tools as a Project.Manager, I believe it was important for me to familiar with them

Look for the number on Truecaller to get their full name. Look up the name on LinkedIn. Voila!

It’s becoming more norm. I got one a while back and honestly I’d prefer it over a cold call.

Unheard of to me. I only get texts if I were already in the middle of the process (facebook)

    • Did you interview with FB recently?

Not hearing back after three days is a solid sign you found yourself an authentic Apple recruiter!

Apple's iPhone trap. If you have Android and can't answer FaceTime, you are disqualified

I received a text from an Apple recruiter once but she did try to reach out to me via call first. I was in a meeting and couldn’t take the call and she sent a text right away asking when we can talk over phone.
