https://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-tn-apple-contract-workers-20190212-story.html Apple does provide thousands of jobs around the world, but working conditions for contract employees right in Silicon Valley are borderline abusive. There may be a duty to deliver profits to share holders, but Apple has forgone some common sense forms of decency when it comes to treating all employees with respect. Inside, working conditions have been exposed as equally undesirable. Need to use the men's restroom? You had better get in line. Hungry and need a snack during the day? There are definitely no free platters laying around and good luck finding a vending machine with any stock left. Most contract employees are assigned to work between 12 and 15 months, but many do not make it their full term.
You should read articles about how google treats its contractors - they make us look like angels (I’ve worked with contractors myself, and it’s not as bad as it’s painted out)
I would strongly disagree. Haven't worked at Google but I can attest to how horribly the treatment is of contractors at Apple. There also appears to be some unfair and really bad treatment towards non southeast asians from the employees in those regions.
I worked in both Apple and google as a contractor . Don’t even compare with google . Apple is so stingy . First there is no cafeteria in the contractors buildings . Forget about the free food. A ghetto in Sunnyvale . No restrooms . No parking space . Horrible
How is Google better?
Work wise it’s the same shit work at both the places .At least you are treated far better at google with better working conditions and free food . Apple takes advantage of the Indian outsourcing firms and treats them so poorly . They don’t complain . Literally they are treated like slaves .
Go and check the AQ buildings in Sunnyvale . You will see the difference .
Are there special buildings for contractors that have no restrooms? No free food? This now counts as abusive? Parking space? Is it any worse than say Facebook?
I have not seen anything like this in Bay Area . I have been contracting last 15 years . Just go and visit the buildings in Arques avenue and you will see yourself .
AQ05 has restrooms (I just checked internally) - are you saying contractors have no access to it? Even the AP buildings don’t have restricted access restrooms Also, AQ05 doesn’t seem to have its own cafeteria (if not, can u tell me the name?) as is the case with many other buildings. You can’t access what isn’t there 😀
Marcom also treats their vendors really bad. Overworked, no overtime pay, no one really appreciates your work, you can hardly take time off, you need to request 3-4 months in advance, you’re told to not join any of the events organized by Marcom.
I have also heard horror stories of how apple treats its contractors.
