Higher base with comparable RSU's. But Apple probably has better refreshers.

      14 yoe, 180k base, ~250k rsu, 50 - 100k bonus (varies each year based on individual/BU perf)

      250k of rsu per year?
      Jun 5
    • Broadcom Ltd. bLgf01
Yes. 25% vest from the rsu grants of previous years adds up to a good number and the stocks has done pretty well in the last 4 years.

At Broadcom hardware is the core. TC is high. After Hock took over, total compensation went up by 50%, considering RSU. At Apple I hear, it is UI engineers that rule and hw is ancillary. At Broadcom, chip team rules. I am very happy at Broadcom

It's a joke. If you take a job at Broadcom, then eventually you can get the same job you were just offered at Apple.

Apple May sound good as brand on your resume. They used to have good quality people but over the time it is going down. We had a person who was under review and we were thinking to lay off but that person was hired in Apple. I later checked about the same person with my friend in Apple where that person joined. My friend told me he was really upset how could someone with low quality can be hired by Apple.
I think pay is similar for Apple and Broadcom HW. WLB is definitely better at Broadcom. 401K is also better at Broadcom. There is a fear for lay off on some BU but now I don’t see any lay offs happening lately. Hock is the smartest CEO I have worked for. He is a CEO who believes in paying well. He issued 4 years of RSU grants in advance. He also made yearly t quarterly RSU vesting. He is very open about what he is going to do. He does what he says. Given a choice I would always work for Broadcom as long as he CEO

How is this even a question... Broadcom, Qualcomm, no comm compares to Apple

  • Broadcom Ltd. GreatDad
I dont understand why Apple is best. Any HW engineer i talk to in apple always cribs about WLB, which is not the case in Broadcom. Many groups here have good WLB and almost same pay as apple.

Also, in my BU we have many folks from apple to Broadcom but all in Israel

Only cons i see in broadcom is fear of layoffs, but thats OK as long as u and ur BU is doing good

Do things like SpaceX count as hardware. I'd argue there are some fighter jets that are a bit more sohpisticated than an iPhone.

Apple designs and makes great products, but I don't know how much you can contribute or your skills are transferable or not after Apple. I think many succeed in Apple due to its environment or culture, I am not sure what. I know some very good designers worked in Apple, once they changed company, they became average; I also know some average designers when they joined Apple, they became very good, so there is something about Apple itself, not people.

Why is it an invalid question? Is it team dependent?Would you go to Apple instead?

Well, let's put it this way. What do you think the ratio of engineers going BRCM to AAPL is vs the other way around? Over the last 6 or 7 years, it's probably 500:1.

I can agree with you partly but there is another reason for this ratio ,brcm salaries increased only for the last 1-2 years after Hocks takeover and stock accumulation ,also you don’t see brcm do a lot of hiring when compared to apple after this late surge in salaries
      Jun 5
    • Broadcom Ltd. YXoQ87
But still, most businesses at Brcm have a limited shelf life, there's still a ton of politics, you have a lot of night calls. And if you take the Broadcom job, your next job could be...at Apple.
