Can anyone that has worked at both companies comment on this? Health insurance, 401k match, gym, fertility, discount cards, transit passes, stock purchase plans, ev charging, discounts on company products, etc.
EV charging is shit at Apple. There’s a consistent shortage of chargers. Except at Apple Park apparently.
Was at both, perks are almost the same, don’t try to make decisions based on perks. TC and particular project is far more important
Microsoft benefits are way better. 401k match at Microsoft is $9250 a year; at Apple it’s only 3% of ur base, capped at $9250 a year if ur base is high enough. Tuition reimbursement at Microsoft is 10k a year; at Apple it’s only $5250 a year. HSA contribution at Microsoft is 1k a year for a single person; at Apple it’s only $750 a year. Health insurance at Microsoft is free; at Apple, medical, dental, and vision together are crazy expensive, like $770+ per year in paycheck deductions. Fitness reimbursement at Microsoft is $800 a year and can be used for fitness equipment; Apple has an onsite fitness center in Cupertino and for remote employees the reimbursement is only $300 a year and can only be used for gym memberships, not for buying bikes, shoes, etc. The prime card at Microsoft is much better. At apple we don’t get discounts on movie tickets and stuff. Microsoft gives u an orca card; Apple only reimburses $100 a month for commuting expenses. For discounts, at Apple u get like 1 of each product 25% off and 10 of each product 15% off each year, plus $500 discounts every 3 years.. not sure how it compares to Microsoft The only thing where Apple really wins is ESPP. It’s 10% of base at a 15% discount, which is better than Microsoft’s 15% of base at a 10% discount. Also, the price at Apple is based on the lower of the beginning and ending days of the purchase period, but at Microsoft it’s only the ending day. HTH! Lmk if u got any questions 🙂
Thanks!!!! Very helpful How about vacation days? Do you know what are the benefits for parents like maternity leave and aternity leave? Is there coverage for infertility treatments? Thanks for all the info.
Paying over $400 per MONTH for health insurance if u have a family to cover at Apple
Fully agree. ESPP is the only thing where Apple wins. MSFT wins everywhere else. And MSFT has free food too.
That’s not true, at least not in Redmond. No free meals
Is there Apple in Redmond to compare? I compare bay to bay.
What kind of snacks and drinks does Microsoft have? Is it Google level with Kombucha and Odwala or more of the canned soda variety?

Been a while since I worked for Apple, haven't worked for Microsoft. 401k match up to 6% of your salary (vests over a couple years, I think matching starts at 50%, i.e. 3% if you put in 6%). EV charging at various buildings. Up to 10% of your salary can be put into the ESPP with 15% discount on the purchase price. 25% personal discount, 15% for family and friends, $500 extra discount once every 3 years. Gym was like $10 / paycheck. Health insurance seemed decent, not sure though. Dental and vision were included iirc.
