Having offers from Apple as well Uber. Uber offer is more solid than Apple in terms of cash and equity.
Apple folks, given an option to earn more and learn more, do you think you will goto Uber or you won’t take the risk?
Uber folks, how confident are you that RSU will atleast hold this value till IPO or you all are hoping against hope, please be honest :)

Not even a question. If the comp was just 5-10% more then it would be a question. You are getting a jump from 350k to 450k, which is 400K over 4 years; and entering an exciting domain, impactful product, learning new things, etc. I think the choice is clear!

Uber is not a “sinking ship” by far. Business is challenging but our value should be somewhere between 33 and 48 per share (closer to 48, I believe you can assume 45 right now with potential to increase).

@bag - just some friendly advice from someone who has been through the goat rodeo a couple of times.

Always sell along the way. Even if you believe that Uber will do well, take some money off the table. Get to $1M, $5M, $20M in net worth.

Each milestone is life changing. Too many people come out of “hot” startups with peanuts because they held too long.

Only have a sip of the Kool-aid. You won’t regret missing a little bit of upside if things go incredibly well.

I'm pretty sure Uber will IPO at a much higher price than $49. Just compare with other ride sharing companies that have more recent funding rounds

@Rqwx5o - but will the stock still hold its value a year after ipo coz that’s the time we will be allowed to sell the stock?

In my opinion, Uber stock will be very valuable and they will continue to grow. They already have a huge market that can be monetized in many ways.

PqRt121 can you guarantee Apple stock will be higher than today’s value 1 year from now? Nobody knows future value of stocks.

Also, if it is clear value of Uber stock would reduce 1 year later, it would reduce today not wait for 1 year.

I think you are overthinking this - even at value of 33 you are getting 400k more - there’s nothing more to think about - the offer is already awesome. Whether the value will hold at 49 in 2020 is talking about whether you will have a huge icing on the cake!

Hmm - Apple doesn’t give you a new offer when you change teams though is my understanding.

Its not a new offer, just changing teams laterally at Apple vs jumping the ship to join Uber, looking from long term perspective

Which one is setting sun between the two, i think both Apple and Uber are rising stars with so much to offer in future.

Of course Apple is the setting sun as compared to Uber. Think of Uber as the next Amazon...

Only an Apple employee will say that Apple is a rising star since they don’t have any information about their own company other then what they r working on

Apple if u have a family. Uber if you’re young and single and can move about easily.

What if I have a family but can still put in extra hours to learn new and exciting stuff, wouldn’t Uber be a better choice for my long term growth in that case as compared to slow moving Apple?

It is not just about extra hours but frequent travelling as well... Like flying off in a few hrs notice?

Am okay with flying at a short notice as well although I have been told that my entire team is based at Uber hq.

Hmm... I get a feeling that you actually want Uber but don’t dare to take the risk... I would say go for it since you prefer Uber. Staying at the same place can make someone get too comfortable which is not good for long term growth.

It depends on which office you are based in as well... It is not a sinking ship and I foresee the price to go up when we IPO... Then possibly go down after a few weeks due to uncertainty in the long term roadmap. But the real question is whether you will still be in Uber when we IPO.

Where will you be based in?

“But the real question is whether you will still be in Uber when we IPO.” @Dheos- why will someone joining now leave before IPO, are you saying due to pip or layoffs?
      Apr 23, 2018
    • Uber Dheos
      Due to acquisitions...

But if you are going to be in SF then it is all good. It is probably the best office to be in at Uber. Go for Uber!
