Is it worth it to try and get an app eng position at google if you know you cant cut it for the sde role? Will I ruin my chances of being a software engineer for anyone else later (including transfering to sde at goog)? Currently working as a full stack software engineer TC: 107k 3yoe
Op can you share the tech that you have worked on as a full stack developer. Thanks

How different is the process for Application Engineer?
Instead of giving up, why not try to practice and ace these interviews? If you can pass the app interview, there's no reason you can't pass the swe interview. It's just a matter of practice.

If you want to be an app engineer, then you should apply. If you want to be a SWE, then you could get hired as an app engineer and apply to transfer after a year or two. Just know that a change in role will require an interview, so you can't avoid the SWE interview. What you can do is check in lots of code as an application engineer. Having that history and people who will vouch for you will make it easier ti get through the interviews.
Is difficulty of interviews different in application engineer vs swe?
I know I couldn’t pass the sde loop right now. Sounds like it could be a good way to have sometime to study up while building a rapport. Thanks for the insight
