Applying to grad school with shit GPA

Has anyone had success applying to grad school with a really shit GPA? I ultimately want to move into a Senior Solutions Architect role so im thinking an MSE in Computer Science or comparable computer science masters program would help to round out my Business Management undergrad degree. GPA 2.27 (out of 4.0) Graduated 2018 I had some serious mental health issues my sophomore year which caused a few mid semester medical withdrawls. I have improved since my condition was at its worse. I have 2 years experience as a Salesforce Administrator and Salesforce Applications developer. 4 years in Ecommerce Management. 1 year in iOS application development. Current TC: $55k Assume my gradschool GRE and letters of recommendation are exceptional! Am I wasting my time even attempting to apply to grad school?

Why not do an online grad school part time? Won't really waste any time and most are cheap. You might want to take a few more CS classes, perhaps master's level and do well to show you can succeed.

The opportunity cost is so low, there isn't much of an argument against it. I'm taking like 2-3 classes a year, and plan to finish in about 4 years total. Giving up a lot of video game time :(, but seems worth it to me.

Hey I feel your pain. I had a serious mental health problem crop up in my junior year. My GPA was like 2.8 I think. It was hard but you can take grad classes as a non-degree student. If you do well, you can use that to get yourself in. This is what I did. ASU has online grad courses you can take as non-degree.

Hey same here, mental health problem fucked me up. How did you cope and everything ok now?

I’m ok now. At the time I didn’t know you could take a medical leave of absence. I stayed in school because I thought I’d have to start repaying loans.

I’d think carefully about whether it’s worth the costs. But, given that you’ve already done that thinking and determined it’s worth it, then go for it. Frequently, if you have work experience, that factors into the admission decision, so that can work in your favor. Besides, all you have to lose if you’re rejected is time filling out the applications and the application fees.

Do a serious online program (Harvard/MIT have some through EdX) and get solid grades. Use your GPA there to justify an application to a resident grad program.

Let the past roll of, focus, and get that grad spot ! Getting a great GRE score is a great way to prove academic ability despite a low undergrad gpa. Having years of experience helps too

Before you spend time on the GRE, make sure the school actually looks at it.
